A Pantry Full of Protein [Giveaway] + Pumpkin White Chocolate Protein Pancakes [Recipe]

October 19, 2015 By Laura

Protein and I have had a long romance.

Add peanut butter to that and I’m in heaven.

When The Vitamin Shoppe sent me a giant nut butter-filled package from their protein pantry I was thrilled.  Even Vegas got all wide-eyed as we pulled out all the goodies.

Spoiler: There’s a giveaway for a $100 gift card at the end of this post.

The Anti-Inflammatory Diet Recap + WIAW

October 14, 2015 By Laura

Food can be a powerful healer.

Funny, since it can also make you sick.

Vegas and I decided to try out an anti-inflammatory diet for a couple of weeks to see if it would relieve some muscle problems we’ve been having.  She get cramps and achey feet and I have a ankle/Achilles that refuses to heal.  My fingers have also been hurting too.  32 is too young for arthritis… right?

Anti-Inflammatory Diet - great for a reset, to reduce bloat, and to relieve joint pain!

Pumpkin Quinoa Chia Pudding [Recipe]

October 9, 2015 By Laura

Strangely enough, it does rain in San Diego.

Especially when I make something pretty that I need sunlight to take pics of.

Chia pudding, pumpkin… none of that is strange.  Adding quinoa to the mix may be a little odd, but it is quite good! (As is the occasional rain.)

Our anti-inflammatory diet experiment had led to a lot of creativity.  Since we are grain-free, I’ve been using sweet potato and quinoa as our main carbs.  Vegas claims to not like quinoa, so naturally I’ve been sneaking it into everything.  Like this pumpkin pie-inspired breakfast.

50 Sources of Plant Based Protein

October 5, 2015 By Laura

Protein is key for muscle recovery and growth.

Please tell me you knew this already…

As someone who exercises and lifts weights regularly, one of the most common questions I face is: “Where do you get your protein?”

So many people think the only way to get adequate protein in to your diet is with meat and fish.  Those are good sources, but they aren’t the only protein sources in the world.  Hitting the daily protein quota from vegan sources is possible as long as you know what to eat.  A number of athletes and bodybuilders choose plant-based diet (check out the 300 pound vegan if you need more proof).  I used to eat a plant-based diet too!

Super Shoulder & Back Workout + WIAW

September 23, 2015 By Laura

The family workouts continue!

There’s something especially satisfying about making your loved ones hurt.

We’re wrapping up some loose ends this week in Atlanta.  I’m still enjoying my time at home and loving mom’s new digs.

We had a fun workout yesterday in her gym.  She said I worked her harder than any of the trainers she’s worked with.   Mwhahahah!  Here’s what we did:

Post-Workout Grapefruit Sherbet [Recipe] + WIAW

August 26, 2015 By Laura

You know it’s hot when your shoulders sweat.

At least I wipe off my bench at the gym!

If I do cardio, I prefer to do it after I lift so I don’t get too tired.  The problem is that it’s a 10 minute jog to the gym, so I feel like I should just add on another 20 and be done with it.  Yesterday was one of those days.  By the time I arrived at the gym I was burning up and covered in sweat.

Lifting after that was hard at first, but I got into the groove.  I felt bad about being so sweaty in the weight section, but hey… it IS a gym.  And I am a good citizen of the gym world – I always use the stray to clean off my sweat puddles.  Unlike some other people.

Peanut Butter Banana Pancakes [Gluten-Free Recipe]

August 19, 2015 By Laura

Pancakes are never a bad idea.

Especially when you have a super-ripe banana.

My bananas have two speeds: too green or too brown.  How do I miss that window of a perfectly yellow banana?  I guess I can’t complain if it results in pancakes!
