50 Sources of Plant Based Protein

October 5, 2015 By Laura

Protein is key for muscle recovery and growth.

Please tell me you knew this already…

As someone who exercises and lifts weights regularly, one of the most common questions I face is: “Where do you get your protein?”

So many people think the only way to get adequate protein in to your diet is with meat and fish.  Those are good sources, but they aren’t the only protein sources in the world.  Hitting the daily protein quota from vegan sources is possible as long as you know what to eat.  A number of athletes and bodybuilders choose plant-based diet (check out the 300 pound vegan if you need more proof).  I used to eat a plant-based diet too!

Spicy Pumpkin Chicken Salad [Recipe]

October 2, 2015 By Laura

Pumpkin season is upon us!

Too bad it is still ridiculously hot here.

Despite the heat, I’ve decided it’s time to bring the pumpkin back.  Given our new anti-inflammatory diet experiment, I didn’t start out with some decadent baked good.  No, this recipe is simple, healthy, and grain-free.

It also sounds a bit strange… but I promise you that adding pumpkin to chicken is good.

Anti-Inflammatory Experiment + FREE Online Health Advice

September 30, 2015 By Laura

I’m not a fan of wearing pants.

Since moving to San Diego, Vegas and I basically live in workout clothes.

This may seem lazy… I can’t argue that… but getting dressed in “real” clothes seems like way too much effort.  By default, anything requiring me to dress nicely gets left by the wayside.  I’m not a recluse!  I’ll go to the gym, ball games, casual dinners, the grocery store… anything beyond that is a stretch.

When I received the opportunity to try out an online dietitian with Amwell, I was thrilled.  Doctors typically require “real” clothes.  If I can get a consult in my PJs, I’m a happy girl!  With Amwell, you can speak with a doctor or RD from home via your computer.

Amwell

I literally did the consult in bed, in my PJs.

My Family Is Strange But Good

September 25, 2015 By Laura

I’ve been slacking on the #strangebutgood.

Really just the link up… life’s strange goodness continues.

I’m still not back home, so I have no recipe for you.  I do have some observations and life happenings though!

How about I did a FlyWheel class with my baby sister an cousin, then took mom to the gym for a glute workout.  My mom LOVES glutes.  Really.

Super Shoulder & Back Workout + WIAW

September 23, 2015 By Laura

The family workouts continue!

There’s something especially satisfying about making your loved ones hurt.

We’re wrapping up some loose ends this week in Atlanta.  I’m still enjoying my time at home and loving mom’s new digs.

We had a fun workout yesterday in her gym.  She said I worked her harder than any of the trainers she’s worked with.   Mwhahahah!  Here’s what we did:

Family Time and Relaxation

September 21, 2015 By Laura

If I ever move again, it’ll be too soon.

Fully aware I just cursed myself.

We are FINALLY done with moving my mom.  It took 2 weeks and 3 storage units to move out of the house we grew up in.  In 24 hours, mom’s new apartment went from this:

Saying Good-Bye to My Childhood Home

September 14, 2015 By Laura

I went MIA last week.

This week may be the same.

Vegas and I headed to Atlanta to help my mom pack up and move.  This is the house my dad built when I was a year old.  My mom, my sisters, and me have lived here the majority of our lives.  Since my sisters and I all moved away and my dad died it’s just too big and empty for mamma.

That doesn’t make moving out of it any easier.

First thing's first.

First thing’s first.
