My Version of Camping + WIAW

April 20, 2016 By Laura

I have become a fan of camping.

By camping, I mean glamping.

In case you aren’t familiar with the term, here’s how Urban Dictionary defines Glamping:

glamping

We glamp in Pedro, the RV.  No sleeping on the ground.  There’s a shower and a toilet.  We have a kitchen with the stove and microwave.  Glamping is just my speed.

Here are a couple of sights from this weekend’s glamp-ground (Silver Strand Beach – just down from Coronado).Silver Strand Beach RV park in San Diego, CA

A day of our glamping eats!  Read on and link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!

WIAW - New

Breakfast:

The usual morning cocktail made by the camping trip.  The matcha sludge stayed home.

Almost every morning we had eggs on tortillas with salsa and bacon.  Except the last day… ran out of tortillas and I had chips instead.

Lunch:

We improvised lunch – often eating on Coronado, which was a 4 mile jog or bike ride away from the camp site.  Did I mention I ran 4 miles?!  ACL my arse.

The duck chilaquiles at Leroy’s Kitchen are amazing, btw.

Dinner:

The beach is a a state park, so it’s gates were locked at 8 pm sharp.  Many nights we’d eat downtown, ignoring the “curfew” and taking an Uber to the entrance so we could walk through.

However, we did find a pizza place that would deliver.  High Tide makes a fabulous pesto pizza with roasted red peppers, chicken, and tomatoes.  It arrived hot, too!  I had 3 slices and salad… because balance. 😉

Pizza and salad from High Tide in Coronado

There was also a ton of vodka, wine, and beer consumed.  And Oreo Thins (soooooo good, btw).  I don’t even want to think about it… at least I exercised every day.

BUT the last toast was to something very cool.  Vegas and I passed our wine exam!!!

Coming back to reality it hard… but at least reality is only 10 miles away!

Do you enjoy camping?  I highly recommend glamping.

What a fun weekend camping and you sure know how to do upscale camp meals! Hope your knee is better. My IT band has flared up and I’m limping around now and feeling your pain.

Oh no! I know that hurts… hope you’re feeling better too!

Camping isn’t bad … but glamping looks more my style! Those chilaquiles look so so good. Omg. And now I want some!
Favorite beach food? Ceviche or tropical fruit.

    April 20, 2016 at 6:55 AM

I don’t think I could deal with actual camping so glamping sounds much better! Favorite beach food is saltwater taffy. Or fudge, does that count?

This looks awesome! Growing up we went camping in a camper, so that was better than a tent. The community showers were pretty gross though! I think I could go glamping for weeks though!
Congrats on passing your wine test!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 12:57 AM

Right?! I refuse to set foot in any of the community bathrooms. 😛

    April 20, 2016 at 7:04 AM

Um yeah, camping would not be for me. My idea of camping is a hotel!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 12:59 AM

My dad used to say that my idea of camping was staying at the Holiday Inn instead of the Hilton. 😉

Congrats on passing the test! I’m a full out pee in the woods sleep on the groun kind of girl – but this doesn’t mean I’d say no to those beach views and breakfast on the sand! Oie this looks marvellous!

PS I can’t seem to get my linkup to work :s

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:00 AM

LOL! You and Vegas would get along well.

      P.S. Did I tell you I “saved” you? I did. 🙂

    April 20, 2016 at 7:22 AM

I love glamping! Especially on the beach. I always get the best sleep because the air is so fresh. If you are ever on Kauai, definitely go camping at Polihale State Park.

I want to hear more about this wine test- how cool! I’m not a big camping fan but I could definitely get on board with glamping- looks like fun!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:05 AM

It’s trough the WSET organization – you take a 2 day class, study a lot, and take this test. We got a certificate and a pin. Now I need to figure out how to leverage it!

  9. Jess @ Keeping It Real Food says

    April 20, 2016 at 7:44 AM

    Glamping! I love it.

  10. Sarah @ BucketListTummy says

Glamping makes camping sound so much better. And on the beach with a sunset? Perfecto. Congrats on passing your wine exam!

  11. Aubrey says

    April 20, 2016 at 7:51 AM

That looks like so much fun! I’ve never actually been camping but I’m not a huge outdoorsy person so clamping would definitely be on the agenda. Favourite beach food… watermelon all the way. Once again, you have given me the travel bug!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:08 AM

Have you ever seen that card that says “I’m outdoorsy in that I like drinking on patios”? So me. 😉

  12. Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says

    April 20, 2016 at 7:55 AM

That pizza sound so, so good!! I refuse to go tent camping. We had a camper when I was a kid, and we’ve been looking into buying either a trailer or an RV, and I am SO excited!

  13. Marina @ Snackie Bird says

    April 20, 2016 at 8:01 AM

Glamping sounds like my thing! And wine exam, lol 😀

  14. Stephanie Leduc says

    April 20, 2016 at 8:11 AM

Oh so very jealous of this day in general, from the food, to the weather, and to that view!!!
    Glamping is quite awesome.

  15. Emily says

    April 20, 2016 at 8:12 AM

That is the most gorgeous view! I’ve never done beach camping. It’s always been mountain camping for us… 🙂 I do love camping in a place with flushing toilets. That’s probably the most important thing for me. 🙂

  16. Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food says

    April 20, 2016 at 8:14 AM

Glamping is definitely more my speed too. The only time I could ever see actual camping being worth it is if I were somewhere amazing, like hiking the Appalachian or something. Glamping on the beach sounds even better, though!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:34 AM

Totally agree – I would actually camp if it was for an epic hike. But don’t tell Vegas that.

    April 20, 2016 at 8:24 AM

Haha glamping all the way! No camping for me lol!

  18. GiGi Eats says

    April 20, 2016 at 10:06 AM

Er. Um. “Glamping” to me is staying in a Homewood Suites! LMFAO!!
I am not a camping girl. AT. ALL.

If there is no bathroom with toilet paper. PEACE!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:36 AM

HAHAHAHA! My dad said the SAME thing about be. I’m like “where’s the St. Regis?!”

  19. Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says

    April 20, 2016 at 10:31 AM

I think I’d be pretty good with glamping 😉

I told my boyfriend that my version of camping in future, after a longggg bike trip in high school, will be glamping only. This could do it.

  21. Kaila@HealthyHelperBlog says

    April 20, 2016 at 11:20 AM

I totally want to go glamping now. 😉

    • Laura says

      HIGHLY recommend it. 🙂

  22. Dani @ Dani California Cooks says

    April 20, 2016 at 11:50 AM

We used to camp on the beach all the time when I was younger! Not as stylish as in an RV though 🙂

  23. Cayanne Marcus @healthyezsweet says

    April 20, 2016 at 1:13 PM

Reasons I shouldn’t read blogs in class: the second I saw the term “glamping” I cracked up very obviously. My boyfriend and I were actually just talking about that and he totally thought I made it up. Take that! Also loving all the Mexican breakfasts mmmmm!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:45 AM

Hahaha! I hope you giggled at a time that miiiiiight have been excusable… I feel honored though. 🙂

  24. Kate says

    April 20, 2016 at 1:34 PM

We have our first camping trip with the boys next week. And definitely tent on the ground camping. While normally I love that, i’m a bit terrified of doing it with the little ones.

  25. Danielle H. says

    April 20, 2016 at 1:54 PM

That little seal was too cute!

I’d love to try glamping. Camping is cool and all, but there are some luxuries I’d like to not give up lol.

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:46 AM

She was adorable! She totally hung out all week too!

  26. Diana says

    April 20, 2016 at 1:57 PM

I love both camping and glamping haha! I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life and have never camped on the Silver Strand…bucket list!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:52 AM

You should definitely check it out! It’s a great public beach to hang out on even for the day; not as crowded as it is by the Del and the beach is every bit as pretty.

  27. Susie @ Suzlyfe says

    April 20, 2016 at 3:09 PM

I love that “glamping” is a thing. I totally want in.

  28. Anne Murphy says

    April 20, 2016 at 5:57 PM

LOL – a microwave, yet? I thought people I know with a propane fridge were getting fancy!

    Pesto Pizza looks amazing…

  29. Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says

    April 20, 2016 at 6:21 PM

Glamping sounds like the way to go! I am not an outdoor sleeping girl at all 🙂

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:53 AM

Then this is the way to go for you too. It’s SO much better than the whole sleeping on the ground thing.

  30. Lee says

    April 20, 2016 at 6:31 PM

I’m totally with you on the glamping–bring on the wine and pizza and flush toilets and showers! Those views are insanely gorgeous, too. I’m going to live vicariously through you for a little while!

  31. Lisa @ Running Out of Wine says

    April 20, 2016 at 7:16 PM

Congrats on passing the exam! That sounds like such a cool certification! And those view (and that food) looks amazing.

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:56 AM

Thanks! I wish high school had been as interesting as wine school. 🙂

  32. Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says

    April 20, 2016 at 11:26 PM

Hate camping with a passion… But LOVE glamping! We glamped up in the mountains of Oman and I had a blast – huge tents with king size beds, full bathroom, electricity, air con… It was perfect! I would definitely try and RV one day though – and its a popular option here in Australia, so much to see!
My favourite beach food is wine… Does that count! Ha!

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 1:57 AM

THAT sounds like glamping at the Hilton! I have got to make it out there one day…

And yes, wine ALWAYS counts. 😉

  33. Tara @ Sweat like a Pig says

    April 21, 2016 at 12:16 PM

Congrats on becoming a professional wino! And I can’t decide whether you running four miles with a torn ACL makes you a machine or completely crazy…. maybe a little of both!

Congrats on the wine exam! That’s awesome. Also, I am totally in the glamping scene. Cause tents? Just no.
And now I crave Pizza at 10pm. Thanks.

    • Laura says

      April 27, 2016 at 2:04 AM
