Workouts & Meal Prep [WIAW]

June 6, 2018 By Laura

Motivation is a powerful thing.

An upcoming birthday and beachy vacation help.

Plank a day

Something about turning 35 (how did I get that old?!) lit a fire under my ass.Β  I’ve alwaysΒ been good about keeping up with workouts, but I’ve been doing more running lately.Β  I’ve also started doing planks again.Β  The above pic was taken yesterday after a killer leg workout.

Do this workout and try a (very shaky) plank after.Β  For each exercise, do 4 sets of 15-8 reps.Β  Increase the weight each time.

  • Leg extensions
  • Hamstring curls
  • Squats
  • Reverse barbell lunges
  • Straight leg deadlifts
  • Leg press

Running is more fun for me in Atlanta.Β  I love the scenery.Β  The park, the flowers, all the crazyΒ people on the Beltline trail.Β  It’s great.

What you don’t see in the pic from a recent run is the humidity.Β  I swear… running in a steam room would be more comfortable.Β  Backward.

Piedmont Park - Atlanta

Then there’s the food.Β Β As I said,Β exerciseΒ has never been a problem for me.Β  Food… well, let’s just say I love to eat.Β  Meal prepping went by the wayside when Vegas and I moved to San Diego.Β Β Why bother when you work from home?

I wasn’t sure I’d get into it again.Β  Now that I’ve been at it for two weeks, I’m no longer worried.Β  It makes life SO much easier and helps me stay on track.

This #WIAW is week 2 of meal prep life.

Breakfast:

As always, I made myΒ morning cocktailΒ before walking to work.

I’ve been bringing my breakfast to work lately.Β  I don’tΒ wake up early enough to have breakfast a home.Β  Eating that early doesn’t appeal to me anyway.

Prepping hardboiled eggs and having apples on hand isn’t hard.Β  It’s certainly healthier than my usualΒ protein bar at the office.Β  What is hard is dealing with the fact that you accidentally threw away one of the two eggs you brought. #fail

Breakfast at work

Lunch:

Lunch was the Bison Meatloaf Muffins I posted the recipe for yesterday.Β  PlusΒ sides.

Dinner:

Dinner was another pre-made dish: turmeric ground turkey.Β  What I actually at it with was a salad and sweet potato.Β  This is a pic of what I took to work for lunch today.Β  I was starving when I got home and forgot a pic of the actualΒ dinner.Β  Either way, you get the idea.

Turmeric ground turkey and french green beans

Eating early is so not my thing either. I feel ya! And ditto on the getting older deal. I can’t believe I am 33! Not that I’m afraid of age. Time just flies! Hope you are doing well!😊

It right there with you… I still feel like I’m 20!

Running in the humidity is not fun but great scenery certainly helps. I am not an early morning eater either, I always bring my breakfast to work and usually don’t end up eating it until around 1pm. Meal prep is essential for me and I might just have to add those bison meatloaf muffins to mine!

Damn! Even I can’t last until 1 pm. My co-worker does it though (noon most days).

Bison meatload? Love itβ€”That sounds awesome. Definitely going to go check that out and try it. Cheers to meal prep making a busy week easier. Even though I work from home a lot, I still rely on it to simplify meal times so I don’t spend too much time cooking when I need to be working on a project.

Haha and by “meatload” I mean “meatloaf.” Best typo ever.

Meatload made me snort my coffee. Well-played. LOL!

First of all, as a 43 year old, I laugh at your 35 but I know it seems “old” to you πŸ™‚ I had the twins at 34 so I felt incredibly older at 35 πŸ™‚
That leg workout is definitely a killer and I know all too well about trying to hold a shaky plank when your legs are toast. Nice work!!
As for the food, the only thing I think I’m capable of making is your breakfast!

    • Laura says

      June 13, 2018 at 10:08 PM

Not that it is old… I’m just still 21 in my head. LOL!

You come visit and I’ll make you something crazy while feeding you wine.

Meal prep makes life so much easier! I usually always at least roast some potatoes and veggies and make HB eggs for the week.

I finally started doing the hardboil thing. I don’t know why it seems like such a struggle in my head. They’re so easy!

I used to keep a knife, a small cutting board and a jar of peanut butter at the office. That and making granola was my meal prepping. πŸ™‚

      June 13, 2018 at 10:09 PM

Why does this not surprise me? You kept bananas too, right? πŸ˜‰

Of course. That goes without saying.

First of all – how did you throw out an egg by accident? how sad LOL. As for meal prepping, even though I do work from home, I do a fair amount of it (less in the summer since I tend to NOT crave roasted veggies and things – except kabocha, ALWAYS kabocha!!) and more cold salads and such, but it helps between busy workdays to have some stuff ready ahead of time, though I also appreciate being able to make lunch masterpieces at home too!! Truly do not take that for granted. Running in humidity sucks – same here when it gets cooking in the summer, though not nearly as long as you get in Atlanta! (PS 35…sniffle. I’m inching towards 39 – gagggg – in a few months!!). xo

It was in a baggie with a paper towel… I thought I’d dumped them all out onto a plate. Notsomuch. It was early… I dunno.

I’m always jealous of your lunches on IG! Makes me miss the work from home days. If I’m honest I was getting lazy with those, too.

      You’ll be 39?! Can’t be if we’re twins. LOL!

Look at you with all the meal prep!! I’ve been doing my best to have some manner of prep done just to make meals easy, and it really is a lifesaver, but in the moment, you’re like ughhhhhh.
Also your arms look AMAZING in the plank picture πŸ˜€

I’ve noticed on your IG that you’ve been going for a lot of runs! Good for you lady. Not sure how you do it with the humidity though.. humidity always kicks my butt! I’m curious where you are going on vacation…?!

I fell off my meal prep a bit the last 2 weeks but hope to get back on board once all the graduation festivities are over. Oh and after I stuff my face with pizza in Italy next week πŸ™‚

While I do work from home, I still think meal prep is a good idea. I don’t often actually do it, however. But I think it would encourage me to include more fruits and veggies, etc., if I prepared some early on in the week to munch on.

    • Laura says

      June 13, 2018 at 10:21 PM

For sure – it’s not even having it there to grab. I just hate wasting money!

For a long time I didn’t meal prep while I was working from home and it was a disaster and I was eating so much crap. I finally realized I had to meal prep if I was going to eat real food.

How was Hamilton? That show is on the top of my list! I think the nearest place to me that’s showing it is London… So it may be a while!
Nothing worse than throwing out food by mistake. And when it’s eggs too… Made my heart sad for you.

It was SO good! I was really wondering if it would live up to the hype. We were not disappointed! Come for a visit when it comes back around next year! πŸ˜‰
