Will Run for Mimosas [5K Recap + #WIAW]

April 18, 2018 By Laura

Apparently, I still like 5Ks!

The mimosa at the end helped.

2018 Dogwood Festival Mimosa 5K

Just over 8 months ago I had surgery to repair my ACL.  I wasn’t sure there would ever be much running in my future.  I know people do it all the time, but that’s my second torn ACL… and I still haven’t gotten the first one fixed.  BUT running in a straight line isn’t a problem!

My goal for the race was to finish in under 27 minutes, which I’d been running comfortably for a couple of months.  My official time was 25:10.  Apparently, that is what happens when I don’t look at my phone while running.

I’ve never been good at pacing myself, which is why 5Ks are always my favorite.  As such, I nearly puked at the end.  But I didn’t!

Enjoying post-race mimosas at the 2018 Dogwood Festival 5K

I ran back to get Vegas, who pretty much hated me for making her run at 8 am.  That cooldown gave me plenty of time to recover and enjoy the post-race booze.

This #WIAW is really what I ate Saturday.  While Vegas is in town, the food is more fun anyway.  WIAW - New

Breakfast:

We did have our morning cocktails before the race…  I’m still shocked we woke up on time.  After the 5K, we enjoyed the complimentary mimosas before walking to one of our favorite patios – Einstein’s – to brunch properly.

Vegas immediately obtained a pitcher of mimosas when we sat down.  I ordered the special – a scramble with salmon, cheddar, spinach, and tomatoes over sourdough toast.  Plus a side of asparagus and the delicious breakfast breads they bring out.  My better half had steak and eggs.  I was pretty sad I missed an opportunity to take a Boomerang of her #yolkporn because it was truly luscious.

Lunch:

Brunch was basically lunch.  We went home a took a nap.  Because mimosas.

Dinner:

At this point, we walked back to the park to enjoy the Dogwood Festival (the reason for the race).  I packed up a picnic to enjoy on the lawn while listening to the live music.

Our spread included: wine, veggies & hummus, various cheeses, prosciutto, and the ENTIRE bag of Siete chips.  Those things are like crack (but only the sea salt – we didn’t care for the lime or nacho flavors).

I can’t wait to do another 5K… but must they start so early?!

Have you ever puked during/after an athletic event?

Are you team Mimosa or Bloody Mary?  Not to make this a theme… but bloody’s are like drinking vomit to me.  Vegas disagrees.

It looks like a great day! From the 5K to the food all around. I am team mimosa, I hate bloody marys and I have never puked from an athletic event. Golf isn’t all that intense physically, haha, which is maybe why its my thing.

I bet if it was hot enough and you had enough beer, golf could lead to puking. LOL!

First of all – YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!! Congratulations!!!
Second – how the hell do you look THAT good at the finish??? I mean seriously.
I love reading this knowing you ran a 5k and shattered your belief in what you could do. Plus, mimosas.

I’ve puked at my horse shows. Including while dismounting. Usually due to heat and holding my breath lol

Oh god. I can’t even imagine a puking dismount. I hope you got extra points.

Haha nice job forcing Vegas to run with you 😉 So glad your ACL was okay! That brunch spread and dinner spread both look absolutely fantastic; love outdoor picnics with live music ahhh!

Thanks! Vegas and I are big fans of a good spread. And a good run… well, maybe just me on the running. 😉

I think that I would only run for Mimosas! I am team Mimosa all the way. Bloody Mary’s gross me out. Eww tomato juice. However, sometimes, I am envious of the fixings. I would like an olive and celery stick to snack on beside my effervescence!
Awesome job on the 5K! Look at how much your body is capable of! You should be very proud of yourself.
Also, mad props to Vegas for joining you and acquiring the apres-running pitcher of mimosas! You two are too adorable!

I am the same way about bloodys! I love to make them, but no way in hell am I drinking it.

I feel like Vegas just acquired the mimosa pitcher for herself… but I won by default. LOL!

Day drinking, picnics in the park and a nap. That’s pretty much my ideal day right now.

I also do not usually like 5k’s bc I too have a had time pacing. I always go out too fast. Really amazing how you recovered so quickly

    • Laura says

      April 23, 2018 at 8:27 PM

That’s why I can’t run anything else! I can sustain it for 3.14 miles, but don’t ask me for more!

So happy to hear you still enjoy 5ks! I’ll run for mimosas too 🙂 I remember your ACL surgery and I’m sooo proud of your handwork and progress. Plus Vegas was an awesome nurse. Hello Morning Cocktails

Thanks, Mary. That ACL surgery was a bitch, but Vegas was an amazing nurse. And very patient running partner.

I’m so happy to hear the 5k went well. It’s always worrying after after surgery that you might not get back to full form but this was defintely a test passed with flying colours!
