Thank Yous and Push Ups

August 2, 2011 By Laura

Today I am thankful.

I was sitting on my couch last night feeling a little grouchy and whiney andย over-tired… it was one of those moods. ย You know, the ones where you’re almost in tears for no good reason.ย

Then I realized that was just silly. ย Monday was not too shabby!

A few things I am thankful for at the start of the week:

  • Being selected for the FoodBuzz Top 9 again for the Indian-Spiced Tofu Scramble I made last week
  • All the bloggy friends – old and new – read my ramblings and left comments over the past few days… you guys continue to inspire and make me grin from ear to ear
  • Making my flight this morning (serious close call)
  • Getting a 1st class upgrade on the return this afternoon
  • Having the discipline to still get a workout in tonight (P90X shout out!)
  • Arriving home to a surprise package ย (’cause I am one lucky duck)

The ever-so-awesome plate-licking Miss Smart of The Smart Kitchen blog-fame sent me goodies!!!

In my box of good stuff:

  • BISCOFF spread!!! ย (OMG – it is just as amazing and I’d dreamed it would be!)
  • Reese’s (my all-time favorite candy)
  • Vanilla Chia Raisins w/ Green Tea (I’ve never heard of such things but I can say they are now half gone)

This totally made my night. ย Those raisins are what I have to credit for powering a good workout. ย Double thanks, Miss Biscoff Fairy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Many of you have commented/asked about the 84 push-ups I do on the daily.

Yes, I really do them. ย NO – I don’t do them in a row. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย (They are done in 3 sets.)

The best part? ย YOU can do them too! ย You just have toย break it down and be consistent.

I posted a 4-step “how to” back in May – click here to check it out.

(Added bonus: Re-reading that just reminded me about runny eggs on my pizza.)ย

Focus, Laura.

Push ups. ย Back in May, I was only up to 75. ย Today I am doing my 84 and honestly… I need to quit slacking and re-test (read the post… you’ll see what i mean about re-testing).

***

I promise something more creative (probably involving Biscoff) tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you ever get into a funk for no reason? ย How do you break out of it?

Did you read the push up post? ย Are you going to try it?!

You’ve got some serious biceps! I need to get on those pushups pronto!

When I’m in a funk, I just give myself some time to get it out (talk to a friend, write down my thoughts, take a nap, or just sit there and sulk). I find that if I just think about it for a few minutes, I realize that 99.9% of the time, I’m just being a little too emotional! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a GREAT day!

Well done to you for pulling yourself out of the fog! I hate those moments, and if it’s really bad I have a rule that I’m allowed to have a good cry for a few minutes, then I need to tell myself to buck up and get on with life. It usually works… I just wish I had your awesome achievements to help me with that ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great job on the top 9!

Ooooo look at those arms! You’re sah huge! ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t have the luxury of slacking on push ups. I kinda have to do them to keep my job. I love them though! Pushups and Lunges are my favorite because they’re always a challenge. I think The Vitamin Bee (thevitaminbee.com) and I are neck and neck in our push up duel right now. Only 4 more weeks to go ๐Ÿ˜€

I definitely need to try the push up challenge, I think I’ll start today! I get into funks a lot. Time is the only thing that will do it for me, and forcing myself not to wallow all day and actually get out and do things.

What if you can do like 1 pushup? Would you recommend doing them on your knees or just doing the 1-2 that you can do with proper form and then increasing when it gets easier? For whatever reason, I just don’t have much strength in those muscles.

    • Laura says

      August 3, 2011 at 2:45 PM

You should definitely start on your knees. Just do what you can, making sure your form is good. Re-test when that gets tolerable. It may take you a bit to go from knees to full push-ups, but you will get there!

I’m to the point where I can do about 20 (on my knees) – but it’s a big step from where I used to be!

Good 4 you with those pushups! I think you deserve Reece’s. They’re my favorite too!

Ah in sets THANK GOD for that! haha! ๐Ÿ˜€ Ok so i’m on 3 sets of 25 and have been for a good few weeks now so I’m thinking I need to up my game a little! Thanks for the inspiration! ๐Ÿ™‚ Well done on hitting the top 9 again! Awesome! Oh and that ab ripper workout looks killer! Gonna try it tonight! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been getting stronger in my upper body since BodyPump, but push ups are still very tricky. I’m like the little engine that could when it comes to doing them, “I think I can, I think I can.” haha

I love the push-up post; I hate push ups. Although, if they might give me your arms, I could totally give it a try.

I totally can get caught in a funk where I become sad/ungrateful and just a total brat haha! I get out (or try to..) by praying and just making light of the situation.

Yay for P90x .. it is a lifesaver during those busy times!!

Yes – I am familiar with “those” moods! Sounds like we both tackle it the same way, though. Whenever I feel like I’m getting in a funk I realize how much I have to be thankful for, too ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for the push-up post, too! I just read it…and really should kick myself in the butt and DO it, now that I’ve read it!

Dood that biscoff spread looks HEAVENLY. Please post about it so I can drool some more. And those moods happen to all of us. Especially on Mondays. But look at you! You made the best of it and managed to get a first class upgrade too! Do it to it! I’m glad your flight went well, that you made it, and that you’re back! :] And I seriously can’t WAIT to try your pushup challenge. The boyman was bustin a bunch out this morning and made me feel like a lazy bones haha! Time to show him who’s buffest (? is that a word…). Or at least tryin to be.

They sell that Biscoff spread at Walgreens, right? I think I heard that somewhere. Either way I need to find it! I had my first Biscoff the other day and it was ammaazing. Now I see what all the hype’s about. ๐Ÿ˜›

Good job on the 84 pushups daily!! I once had a “100 sit-ups daily” thing when I was younger..but it only lasted one day.

High five on the First Class upgrade. And three gold stars on the push-ups. That’s pretty cool.

I’m real bad to get cranky for no reason…just don’t tell me that until AFTER I’m feeling better. It’s hard not to stay curled up on my couch with some popcorn and full fat ranch dressing. But! Living somewhere that’s perpetual summer makes it hard to feel cruddy for too long ๐Ÿ™‚

    Your are are FRAPPING AWESOME!

Popcorn with ranch?! More proof that ranch is good on anything. (I like my popcorn with red wine.)
