There’s one in every crowd.

You Β know the one. Β The dude that you keep catching staring at you in the gym. Β You know it’s just a matter of time before he comes over to chat. Β Monday was that day.

First, you have to picture this guy. Β Mid-30s, frat boy hair cut, tattoos up on arm… fairly big guy with a little beer belly. Β  HeΒ saunteredΒ up to me while I was adding weight to the seated row machine.

He opened his mouth to reveal one of the most Southern accents I’ve heard in Atlanta.

Frat Man: “I believe that’s more than you weigh.”

Me: “Not quite, but close.”

Frat Man: “I’ve been watching you. Β You’re strong.”

Me: “Thank you.”

We went ourΒ separateΒ ways, but I notice he’s still glancing over at me. Β Later I was doing my calf raises and he asked if he could work in. Β I obliged, but before he started, he had to add more commentary.

Frat Man: “I’m sorry I keep staring at you. Β I can’t help it – you look just like Tinkerbell.”

Me: “Well… thanks! Β I love Tinker.”

Frat Man: “I mean it. Β Straight from the TV… how much do you weigh?”

Me: “I’m not really sure.”

Frat Man: “Well, you look good.”

Me: “Thanks. Β Have a great workout.”

All of this went down in the least creepy way possibleΒ (trust me – I know creepy). Β Well, aside from the fact that heΒ said he’s been watching me. Β LOL!

Slightly less funny, but still amusing. Β This was on the television at the gym yesterday morning:

But I mentioned a giveaway, right?

This is one of the more exciting giveaways I’ve done, IMHO. Β Reason being is that I LOVE this product. Β Often I see giveaways for products that aren’t so great. Β Of course, everyone has different tastes… but I do make it a point to try samples before agreeing to a giveaway. Β There have been products I’ve turned down – I feel like it reflects badly on me if you are sent something that isn’t that great!

That’s not the case with this giveaway (or with the P28 Bread – I am in LOVE).

Chike contacted me about their coffee protein powder a few weeks ago. Β I was hesitant – often I find coffee-flavored stuff to be too fake. Β I like the real thing. Β The rep assured me theΒ caffeineΒ content was the same as a 2 espresso shots, and it was low sugar/low sodium I knew I had to give it a shot. Β Enter: a new addiction.

Who needs Starbucks when you can have a homemade protein mocha frapp with a fraction of the sugar? Β If you were to order a Grande (16 oz) Mocha Frappucchino Light atΒ Starbucks, you’d be drinking 130 calories, 28g carbs, 26g sugar, and 4g of protein. Β You might as well just swallow 2 tablespoons of sugar.

WithΒ 20g of whey protein, 23 vitamins & minerals, and justΒ 2g sugar, this powder makes for a perfect pre-workout shake. Β Sunday I was feeling really sluggish after eating too many salty truffle fries on cheat day (I woke up feeling hung over!), but I downed thisΒ beforeΒ meeting my trainer and had aΒ great leg workout.

In my re-creation of the frappuccino, you’ll only have the 2g of sugar from the Chike protein powder and an additional 6-7g from half of a banana. Β This is aΒ mocha (any excuse forΒ chocolateΒ in theΒ morning), but you could change up the flavors to recreate your favorite.

Check out this Pumpkin Frapp I did last fall, for example.

You guys know I can’t make a smoothie without adding spinach, so this delicious beverage has a slightly green-ish tint. Β The banana added natural sweetness and lent a creamy texture to the drink.

I can never stress enough – use good cocoa!!! Β Your drink will be 10x better and 1T of the good stuff won’t break the bank. πŸ™‚

Mocha Protein Frappuccino

  • 1 serving Chike High Protein Coffee (or 1 scoop protein powder + 1 tsp instant coffee)
  • 1 C spinach (optional)
  • 1/2 medium banana
  • 1 T cocoa powder
  • 7-8 drops liquid Stevia
  • 1/4 C unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1.8 tsp Guar Gum (optional, acts as a thickener)
  • Ice, to taste

Place all ingredients in blander and mix until smooth.

Top with your favorite add-ins – I used raw oats here – and enjoy!

    Ugh – what a creeper! I can’t believe he openly stated he’d been watching you. I would have been furious. Plus side – I bet the anger would have made me lift a new personal best. haha

    The protein sounds great. I occasionally make coffee protein oats, so this would be great in that.

    I am grateful that my gym is mostly men that have no interest in me(or women in general;) I usually keep my headphones in even if there’s no music playing for that reason just in case, though. I LOVED Daria! It was my favorite cartoon as a preteen and probably would still laugh at her sarcastic attitude today!

    I really love vanilla creme stevia mixed with regular or vanilla coffee on ice mixed with vanilla protein powder. I am very concerened with sugar intake, I try not to get sugar from unnatural sources.

    Totally just posted my own protein-coffee concoction. Of course we’re on the same(ish) page. Whey protein, boo, otherwise sounds great! And duude, funniest gym interactions are ALWAYS the ones where (much) older men are clearly hitting on me, ask me how old I am, and then say, “Oh, I thought you were 16!” right after. Yeah, great, you thought you were hitting on a 16 year old. THAT’S not creepy. Or the time I actually insulted a cute guy who was trying to chat with me (flirting skills are a little rusty over here), reason #3,214 that I’m single.

    My go-to caffeinated beverage is homemade iced coffee (Dunkin Donuts brand). YUM! A little almond milk, all-natural (low-fat) creamer & some stevia. Delicious!

    My go to caffeinated beverage is either coffee or yerba mate. I love both and would very much like to give this a try.

    I am concerned with sugar intake. Since becoming more aware of food and its contents (where they come from and what not) I have been better about listening to how foods make me feel. Less sugar equals a more happy Rachel.

    If I do get caffeine, I try to get the healthiest options, so I usually go with an iced coffee with nonfat milk or iced green or black tea all unsweetened! I tend to like cold beverages, haha!

    haha. gym frat boy. I’ve gotten those stares before but nobody’s actually had the balls to come up and say it. I don’t look as hot as you and I’m definitely not as strong (shit, I haven’t officially strength trained in 3 weeks … ), but I can do quite a bit more than my weight on lower body and close to my body weight on upper body (would be closer if I could lose these last 10 lbs!). I aspire to one day be as awesome as you.

    My favorite caffeinated beverage is iced coffee cubes + protein shake. If we’re talking booze, it’s coffee + irish cream + whisky.

    I’ve been following you on pinterest and have been inspired by all of your smoothie recipes. Carrot cake batter is my absolute favorite to get my day going! When it comes to caffeine, I prefer to go with the simple coffee and unsweetened almond milk concoction. Simple and yummy!

    First of all, that smoothie looks unreal. If I could drink some kind of coffee late drink I would, but I try to switch things up πŸ˜‰ That’s such a funny story (and very flattering!) about that man! We’ve gotten some interesting comments when our entire XC team is out for a run before. I think a book should be written about the things guys say to girls when they are working out! haha

    OH.EM.GEE!! It’s like this is calling me! My favorite caffeinated beverage is coffee – plain and simple. Well, not completely plain but either hot with some warmed up soy or almond milk or iced with just a splash of soy/almond milk. No sugar needed or added. πŸ™‚

    omg i was laughing out loud reading about your “encounter”. Your first sentence is so true…..there is always one creeper. The one at my gym is also mid-30s but has a hideous blond bowl cut. Ughhh he always tries to talk to me while I’m working out and I end up being really bitchy to him haha
    I would love to try out the high protein coffee drink! I really don’t actually drink anything caffinated but I love coffee flavored things (especially ice cream mmm)

    That smoothie looks amazing! Wow, your tale of the gym creepy guy totally rings a bell. There was literally a guy with a velour tracksuit, spiky hair and gold chains working at my gym for a while who would stand and watch me work out. EEKS! So glad he’s no longer there.

    In the summer – go to bev is iced coffee with unsweetened almond milk and stevia or plain old iced tea. Winter – hot coffee, black or flavored iced teas!

    Okay, now for round two (clearly I really love and want this coffee haha). Ok, my go-to is, sadly either Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts… whichever happens to be closer. I must say, DD is probably my preference despite being higher in sugar and such… I go for the Coffee Coolatta, though I do get it with skim milk and leave off the whipped cream to make me feel a LITTLE healthier. At the ‘bucks, it’s a Coffee Light Frappacino, and I sprinkle on my own cinnamon and cocoa powder. Both are delicious, but I do need something a little healthier! Thanks!

    I was concerned with sugar intake before I found out I have 6 cavities yesterday (diabetes runs in my family)… now I’m even MORE freaked out by it… Is it possible to live a sugar-free life when you have a serious sweet tooth?     Go to caffeinated beverage…well, BEFORE you got me totally HOOKED on the Fitmixer aminos and ACV…it was coffee, straight up! No sugar, no creamer (unless it was the weekend and I maybe kinda sorta snuck some Baileys in it…shhhh!)…just a cup of dark roasted black deliciousness!

    My favorite go-to caffeinated beverage is diet mountain dew. Yep, I know all about fake sugars…but there is a limitless supply here living at my dad’s the past two years…basically free caffeine!
