3 Tips For Flying on the Cheap

September 30, 2016 By Laura

People comment on my travel habits a lot.

We are on the road a good amount.

The biggest misconception about traveling is that you have spend a tons of money to do it.  Not true!  Anyone can jet off to Europe… you just have to plan.

In honor of this week’s $75 dollar flight to Italy, I’m sharing my Top 3 Tips for Flying on the Cheap today!

Strange But Good Travel

January 23, 2015 By Laura

I can’t travel like a normal person.

At least I wear shoes…

Shoeless travel

Yes, I sent this to Passenger Shaming on Instagram.

The creepiest part was that when I said something to the flight attendant she said it happens all the time.  Apparently parents even let their kids go to the bathroom barefoot!  I have a friend that is a flight attendant and SHE said it happens on every flight.  WTF?!  End rant.

I’m on the other side of the country this week with Vegas (though not IN Vegas).  Being 9 weeks out from my competition, I had to supplement my travel a bit.  I brought chicken, turkey burgers, veggies, roasted sweet potatoes, and frozen Greek yogurt (a must – it doubles as an ice pack) with me.  Okay, I supplemented my travel a lot.…

Easy Travel Snacks + Quest Chips GIVEAWAY!

October 15, 2014 By Laura

Travel can be a challenge when it comes to food.

Or it can be a fun adventure!

I’m no stranger to packing up my meals and going.  I once flew with 21 meals!  This trip is a little different.  I’m in Las Vegas playing in a softball World Series.  That means long days on the field, not knowing when the next food opportunity will come.  We don’t have a fridge and I doubt my ability to keep food at a safe temp in the Vegas sun all day… snack time it is!

Packaged foods are happening.  That doesn’t have to be all bad!  I’m not snacking on the “typical” things.  Here are a few items I’ve packed up to withstand uncertain schedules, heat, and a lot of roughhousing.

I Love Lucie, Basel Episode

May 12, 2014 By Laura

It may seem strange to travel to another country and stay with someone you don’t know.

I didn’t hesitate.

Lucie was so kind to open up her home to me for the first leg of my travels.  It was funny – I didn’t really occur to me that I didn’t know her in real life until someone commented that it was brave on both our parts to plan to spend this time together.  Thankfully it went off without a problem!  (I think… Lucie will have to tell her side of the story. ;))

Pre-Vacation Food + WIAW

May 7, 2014 By Laura

Wasting food is one of the 7 deadly sins in my house.

There are starving children in Africa!

Before leaving to go out of town I make it my personal mission to eat everything perishable in my house.  If it’s not eaten before I leave, it’s eaten on the road.  I’ve done a couple of travel food posts before; while I’m not in competition mode this trip I still would rather have my own food from home than eat nasty airport food.  I’d also rather not pay a ton of money for nasty airport food.  That money is better spent on chocolate and wine in Europe!

Often people are surprised by the food I bring through security.  You CAN bring food!  Just avoid the liquid.

Pro Tip #1: Protein powder will not be mistaken for cocaine.

Legit powder

Pro Tip #2: If you freeze yogurt, it’s a solid!

This WIAW is a crazy mix of leftovers.  I’m not even going to try to separate it into meals!

Read on for my eats, and then check out Jenn’s blog for everyone else’s delicious creations!…
