Any Excuse to Party

August 25, 2014 By Laura

My family loves a party.

To say the least.

Last Saturday would have been my dad’s 59th birthday.  I froze him in my head at 52… it’s weird to think he would have been almost 60 this year.  It may seem weird to some people, but we decided to have a little party in his honor with some close good family friends.

My dad loved people.  He also loved good food and good wine.  We made sure all were present!  We laid out snacks while prepping the grilled goods.  Cheese, crackers, soppressata, grapes, and figs:

New Site, Fun Food… and an Epic Fail

August 18, 2014 By Laura

Welcome to the new Sprint 2 the Table!

Thank you guys for putting up with my outdated look for so long.  I am no web designer, so I finally decided to do the smart thing and enlist help.  I hope you like it, and that it makes it easier to navigate around here.  If you run into any bugs, please let me know.  There are always kinks to workout.  Kinky.

ALSO… I added a tab for training and nutrition.  I earned my certifications a few weeks back, but hadn’t had the time to really promote it.  With the new site in place, I’m ready to take it to the next level.  Wheeee!

This has nothing to do with anything except that I think it's hilarious. Although... if Target had a bar... that would really be taking it to the next level.

Confessions of a Child-Free Woman

August 11, 2014 By Laura

Confession #1: I’ll never confess anything too incriminating.

Confession #2: I ruined my political career by the time I was 13.

Confession #3

Everyone around me seems to be having babies.  Apparently this is supposed to induce some biological clock thing.  In reality, it makes me happy I don’t have kids.

I have a life

I missed the maternal gene.  For starters, kids puke.  Vomit makes me vomit.  They say it’s different when it’s your kid.  “They” are fooling themselves.  Vomit is always repulsive.  Even worse if you have a phobia (seriously – ask my mom; I’ll do anything to avoid puking)….

It’s Growing Season

August 4, 2014 By Laura

Growing can be fun.

It can also be scary.

Want it more than fear it

Some days I feel powerful.  I go to the gym, lift heavy stuff… decide to be a ninja….

#MoveHappy Week 2: Quest Bars & Nutrex

July 7, 2014 By Laura

Long weekends make me happy.

We really should implement a 2-day work week, 5 day weekend policy.

This weekend was full of happy movement.  Atlanta is home to the world’s largest 10K, the Peachtree Roadrace.  It’s held every year on the 4th.  This is my 5th race; I’ve only missed one since 2008!  I haven’t been running much, but my goal was to finish in under an hour.  I rolled out of bed early Friday morning and took the train to the start line.

I debated going to the convention in town… but nah.

Bread, Breakfast, & Jackson Pollack

June 30, 2014 By Laura

Weekends are for wandering.

But don’t get lost.

I did lose a car key… but I had a spare!  I have no idea where it is.  This is not at all relevant to this wandering post.. My weekend started out strong with an attempt at homemade bread on Friday morning.  I had bookmarked Sarena’s gluten-free bread recipe when she shared it on Lindsay’s blog weeks ago.  I have a fear of making yeast bread, but I’d had bread made by Sarena before and couldn’t wait to try it for myself.

The flavor was great, but I think the chef was to blame for the too-dense texture.  Sarena’s recipe says to use a mixer.  I used my hands.  Next time I’ll try whipping the eggs first to get some air in!  Or I may crash my mom’s house to use her mixer. 😉

5K Comeback + Fiesta Night

June 23, 2014 By Laura

I used to be fast.

I also used to run a lot.

It’s funny how must faster you get when you get when you run a race.  I’ve been running a little bit.  Slowly.  On a whim I decided to run a 5K Saturday morning.  It turns out I hadn’t been pushing myself as hard as I thought I had been on my jogs.

I lined up for the 5K not expecting much out of myself.  It was already pretty hot and incredibly humid at 8am when the race started, but once I took off I felt like running a little faster.  Half way through I realized I was pacing pretty well… so I went for it.  25:52 went it, to be exact.  I finished 3rd in my age group (which is now 30+ – when did that happen?!) and 14th out of the women!  Kind of a nice surprise… and now I feel like running more 5Ks.

Low Alcohol Drinks & Spicy Bubbles

June 2, 2014 By Laura

I took a lot of classes this weekend.

If only high school had been this much fun.

Atlanta’s Food & Wine Festival is my favorite event of the year.  It’s not just another tasting tent cattle call.  Food and wine experts come from all over the Southeast to teach classes, host tastings, and showcase their best on the tasting trails.

Food and wine are also great bonding agents.  I tend to go to these event alone, which has lead to meeting a ton of great people.  This year I went with my friend Stephanie, whom I met at last year’s festival in the beer and doughnut pairing class!
