When In Rome

August 3, 2015 By Laura

It’s not secret Italy is my favorite place in the world.

I could move to wine heaven.

When it comes to the combination of history and cuisine, there are few places in the world that provide the type of high quality dishes and sightseeing that Rome does.  From Michelangelo’s ceiling in the Sistine Chapel and the Gladiator lore of the Colosseum, to the local eateries and the world-renowned restaurants, weekend breaks to Rome provide something for everyone.  I first went when I was 15 and I think my jaw hit the floor and stayed there the whole trip!

If you’re looking for a tasty get away to Rome, here are some of the city’s best dishes.

Freedom for All 4th of July Recipes

June 29, 2015 By Laura

Any holiday that involves good food is my favorite.

Bonus if it includes fireworks.

This 4th of July I have no clue what we will do… it’s my first not in Atlanta.  Usually I run the Peachtree Road Race… maybe I’ll run my own 10K?  Or maybe I’ll just have a marathon cooking session…

Either way, below are a bunch of recipes that I think would make for a tasty 4th, whether you are home or away, American or just like delicious food!

Oh yeah… and this happened:

Back to Reality

June 1, 2015 By Laura

The hardest part about vacation is coming back home.

Not that San Diego sucks to come home to.

There’s just nothing like being in Olympia and running the length of the stadium where the greatest athletes ran in 776 BC.  A stadium where women were once forbidden to be.

I’m sure they would have appreciated my #winning pose in front of the Temple of Zeus.

About Time ProHydrate Tropical Protein Slushie

May 15, 2015 By Laura

Did you ever look forward to gas station snacks as a kid?

Please tell me I wasn’t the only one with trashy taste as a child.

These days I dread road trip food – especially after my recent cross-country drive.  However, when I was a kid I loved stopping at the QT for a giant slushie.  It’s not that I don’t like a slushie as an adult, but I try to avoid the onslaught of chemicals.

When I received a box full of all natural supplements from About Time, I was immediately drawn to their new ProHydrate Protein Water.  It screamed #strangebutgood protein slushie!

Cookies & Cream Zero Carb Protein Smoothie

March 16, 2015 By Laura

I love me some protein.

Bro.

I also love cookies.  If you can combine protein and cookies, you have a winner.  When Isopure sent over their cookies & cream zero carb powder with 50 grams of 100% pure whey protein isolate I couldn’t try it fast enough.  It was perfectly timed too – after being on he road for a week I was ready to get back in the gym!

Lessons From Route 66

March 9, 2015 By Laura

Driving across the US can be as entertaining as going to Europe.

Just in a more… American… way.  Go ‘Merica.

If you’ve been following along, you know that Vegas and I picked up a hitchhiker at Graceland.  The King himself.

The second day of our cross country move involved a trip to Graceland.  How could we pass up the bobble head Elvis that would become the mascot for our journey?  We also couldn’t pass up a grilled banana and peanut butter sandwich.

Lesson From Route 66: You don’t always be perfectly healthy.  Live life.  When in Rome, eat the greasy sandwich.  Or whatever… you know what I mean.

He came with us to meet Heather in Little Rock, and he saw the house my dad grew up in in Conway.  That night we rolled into Oklahoma City and crashed.  Not literally – just in the bed.  Who knew sitting all day could be so tiring?!

Lesson From Route 66: Picking up hitchhiker isn’t always a bad thing.  And you’re never too old to play with dolls.

Healthy Caribbean-Inspired Dishes

March 2, 2015 By Laura

I’m on the way to San Diego with Vegas.

Warm, sunny weather is so close I can almost taste it!

Meanwhile, I thought I’d entertain you tropical weather foods.  How about The Caribbean?  Even if you are snowed in on the East coast, you can create a faux taste of paradise at home!  Here are a few ideas.

Stay lean

It’s time to put aside any objections to eating goat.  It sounds strange, but it’s delicious.  Goat is a lean meat that’s is good for your healthy and your heart.  Slow cooked in strong spices to tenderize the meat, goat curry is a delicious Jamaican treat!

One of the most fun parts about Bison Meatloaf Muffins (or any meatloaf recipe, really) is the flexibility.  You can use any ground meats you desire (TWSS).  Try turkey, chicken, or a combo of beef and lamb.  I have the attention span of a gnat, so I'm always looking for new ways to make things.
