High Protein Healthy French Onion Dip [Recipe]

December 19, 2016 By Laura

There aren’t many party dips I don’t like.

I’m that girl that hangs by the food spread all night.

This party season I wanted to create a healthier version of a classic dip.  My French Onion Dip is high in protein and low in fat, but doesn’t sacrifice taste.  It’s also quick and easy to make… what’s not to love?

High Protein Healthy French Onion Dip. Because we all know how addicting chips and dip are... why not do it up in a healthy way?

10 Random Products I Love

April 25, 2016 By Laura

I’m a passionate of user of very few things.

Packing up to move makes you realize what you REALLY need.

So yeah… we’re moving again.  As much as I loved the cross-country Route 66 drive, I’m relieved that this time we’re just going down the street.  As I’m – once again – sifting through stuff, deciding what we need and what is just clutter, I realize there are a few things I’ve discovered in our first year here that I truly love.  Funny enough… it’s not clothes or shoes or other “stuff.”  (I’ve actually donated or tossed half my clothing since leaving Atlanta.  Hooray half-assed minimalism!)

The things I’m sharing today are can’t-live-without items I’ve re-ordered more than once, and a few things that have stayed with me for at least 4 years.

I don't use the same things over and over... but these 10 things I just don't want to live without.

Sweet Carrot Protein Shake [Recipe]

March 25, 2016 By Laura

I’ve been back in the gym for two days.

You don’t need a knee for upper body, bro!

I’m trying really hard to make sure I get allllll the protein to make sure I don’t lose a ton of muscle mass with this injury.  So there have been a lot of shakes happening.  Today’s is a little Easter-themed!  In a #strangebutgood way, obv.

Pumpkin Quinoa Chia Pudding [Recipe]

October 9, 2015 By Laura

Strangely enough, it does rain in San Diego.

Especially when I make something pretty that I need sunlight to take pics of.

Chia pudding, pumpkin… none of that is strange.  Adding quinoa to the mix may be a little odd, but it is quite good! (As is the occasional rain.)

Our anti-inflammatory diet experiment had led to a lot of creativity.  Since we are grain-free, I’ve been using sweet potato and quinoa as our main carbs.  Vegas claims to not like quinoa, so naturally I’ve been sneaking it into everything.  Like this pumpkin pie-inspired breakfast.

Strawberry Açaí Protein Bowl [Recipe]

June 19, 2015 By Laura

Are you pronouncing “açaí” correctly?

Are you pronouncing it at all?

Açaí (ah-sigh-ee) bowls are all the rage in California.  And with good reason – they are delicious!  They’re also $13.

Things I’m Loving + WIAW

June 17, 2015 By Laura

I haven’t felt like blogging lately.

Which is why on Monday I just didn’t.

If you don’t have anything to say, I find it’s best not to force it.  No that there isn’t a lot of awesome going on… I’m just busy living life!

Here’s a little bit of some things I’ve been loving…

Leg day… but I’m not going to lie. I still might order this shirt and take a shot.

Spiced Protein Fiber Bars [Gluten-Free Recipe]

February 6, 2015 By Laura

It’s strange to admit, but we all like to be regular.

I mean that in the most TMI way possible.

Fiber.  Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

Fiber helps you poop.  It’s strange to admit to in public, but being regular is nothing but good.  These Spiced Protein Fiber Bars are loaded with fiber, which helps you stay regular, which is good. #strangebutgood

Red Velvet Protein Balls [Recipe]

November 28, 2014 By Laura

Thanksgiving is over.

Officially… we’re still celebrating!

I am of the belief that you cannot begin with the Christmas festivities until Thanksgiving has passed.  And – for the love of god – don’t even think about Christmas before Halloween!

Now that we’re officially past Thanksgiving, I bring you Christmas Balls.  I’m not trying to discriminate and leave out Hanukkah… but I couldn’t get through a blog post about blue balls.  So these strangely good (for you) balls are red.  Red Velvet, in fact.

Red Velvet Protein Balls

I made these with my favorite flower-sender in mind.  Side note: the flower sender is hereby known as Vegas, as that is where the flowers originate.

Vegas loves red velvet cake.  Since I’m in Arizona with Vegas this Thanksgiving holiday (how’s that for confusing?) and these days my favorite activity is making Vegas smile, I bring you post-Thanksgiving, pre-Christmas balls.

Not just any balls though!  These red velvet-y delights are protein-packed and get their red tint from… beets!  How’s that for strange?

Red Velvet Protein Balls

In conclusion, Vegas and I wish you a pre-Merry Christmas (and Hanukkah) from Arizona the day after Thanksgiving.

Now, bust out your healthy balls and celebrate the most wonderful time of the year!

Merry Vegas

Guess who’s is who’s…

These red velvet-y protein delights are protein-packed and get their red tint from… beets! Perfect for a healthier Valentine's Day treat!

Red Velvet Protein Balls

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I used Growing Naturals Rice)
  • 1 T coconut flour
  • 1 scoop Cocoa Cardio*
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp honey
  • 1/2 T coconut oil
  • 4 Drops Capella Flavor Drops, Cake Batter (or 1/4 tsp vanilla)
  • 1/4 C unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Combine wet ingredients.  Mix in wet, adjusting milk as needed.

Roll into roughly 4 balls.  Put in freezer for your own safety storage.

Note: I order my Cocoa Cardio on iHerb (use discount code USO924 for $5-10 off your order!).  If you don’t have beet powder, you can use tsp beet powder and 1 T cocoa powder.  You can also use pureed beets here, but you’ll probably need to cut the milk in half (I haven’t tried it).

I can’t write about balls without giving Lindsay a shout out.  Thanks for inspiring me daily, my baller brother!

Do you ban and Christmas (or Hanukah) celebrations until after Turkey Day?

What is your favorite ball flavor?
