Honey-Orange Soy Glazed Salmon with Bok Choy & Mushrooms

February 13, 2018 By Laura

Honey-Orange Soy Glazed Salmon with Bok Choy & Mushrooms is sweet, salty, and rich in that addicting umami way.  The hint of orange laced throughout keeps this dish bright and fresh-feeling.

Bad News + WIAW

March 23, 2016 By Laura

I completely forgot I was hosting WIAW today.

But I have a really good excuse.

I’m too busy going to doctors and laying around like this:

Cowles Mountain Hike + WIAW

February 17, 2016 By Laura

I’m pretty impulsive.

In case you didn’t get that from the time I ran away and got married…

Yesterday I decided I didn’t want to go to the gym and would instead go for a hike.  Not so impulsive… except that it was already getting late, it’s been in the 80s here, the previous day was leg day, and I’m still supposed to be rehabbing my ankle from my PRP treatment.

No matter.  At 3 pm I headed out to Cowles Mountain.  It’s only about a 20 minute drive inland… but that resulted in a 10 degree difference in temperature.  It was 91 degrees when I started the hike.

The gorgeous blue sky and visible midday moon was a nice distraction from the heat.

PRP Update & a Weekend of Not Cooking

January 18, 2016 By Laura

I didn’t go to a gym for over a week.

This is some kind of record.

I’m a gym rat.  I legit love to go.  It’s my “me” time.  For more than a week I’d either been traveling, skiing, or on crutches.

Not that skiing doesn’t count as exercising.  I’m really talking about lifting.  We came down from the mountain Wednesday and went right to the doctor for my PRP therapy.  That left me like this for the weekend:

Post-PRP shot…

Homemade Fun + WIAW

December 9, 2015 By Laura

We’re super handy over here lately.

Don’t get used to it.

We’ve been hard-core decorating for Christmas.  Vegas made a wreath for our front door and has lined the entire living room with Christmas lights.  She’s threatening to leave them up all year.  We’re so Southern… but at least they’re all white! 😉

I’ve been baking, working on a wine cork wreath, and brewing up some more kombucha.  My scoby is HUGE!  I decided to make it seasonal with the blood oranges we found at Whole Foods (where else?) this week.  I ordered my scoby on Amazon – I love it so much that I featured in Monday’s gift guide post.  Who wants a puppy when you can have a scoby?

Peanut Butter Stout Caramel Corn [Recipe]

June 26, 2015 By Laura

Peanut Butter Stout Caramel Corn.

I don’t think this needs much of an intro.

San Diego has an amazing craft beer culture.  Vegas and I have made it our mission to try it all.  #sorryimnotsorry

But beer isn’t just for drinking – it also makes for some strange but good kitchen experiments.  I’ve used it in chili, hummus, and pumpkin bread… why not as a popcorn flavor?

What I Ate Without an Oven

April 8, 2015 By Laura

I spoke too soon.

One day I’ll learn to knock on wood or something.

Last week I said we were getting to some form of normalcy.  HA!  Till the flaming oven happened… so here we are with a disheveled kitchen, no oven, and some random food.  We also have NO groceries since we were supposed to have gone to the farmer’s market Sunday.  Fires really are inconvenient…
