Strange But Good on Route 66

March 6, 2015 By Laura

Route 66 is known for strange.

I think we added to it.

Today Vegas and I are in Vegas.  Then it’s off to our new home in San Diego!  I can’t believe how fast the trip went by.  It was so much fun to drive across the US seeing all the #strangebutgood sights.

Hopefully we’ll be getting settled in our place next week and things will return to “normal” here… but for now, here’s a bit of what’s been going down the hatch on Route 66.

Vanilla Frosting Combos (#trashybutgood) and almond M&Ms.

Elvis is a lush.

Elvis is a lush.

The Big Texan in Amarillo proved to us that everything IS bigger in Texas.

The cake was big too. I opted out after seeing this dude.

Elvis will sing for food. I made my own protein “syrup” for the hotel waffles!

Birthday Cake M&Ms. Not as amazing as I’d hoped, but I wouldn’t kick ’em out of bed. (Yes, we have gotten M&Ms every day.)

These salted nuts did NOT pass my lips.

Elvis got more sandwich ingredients and tried to hijack my hot bar. We found some favorites from the Southeast in the Albuquerque Whole Foods, and a #strangebutgood pizza.

How have you enjoyed making co-workers, friends, or family stare with strange but good creations this week? The link up rules can be found here or by clicking on “Strange But Good” in the menu bar above. In short, I want to see what concoctions have earned you weird looks from co-workers, family and friends! Post your Strange But Good creations, grab the logo below for your blog, and link up here.

I’m a little sad it’s almost over… but I think my butt is starting to grow into the car seat.  Check out more of Elvis’ adventures on Instagram and Facebook!

Do you get excited exploring new Whole Foods stores?  Vegas said my eyes got THIS big.

What’s your favorite gas station snack?

You better get yourself some CRISPY M&Ms… You would kick those birthday cake M&Ms outta bed in negative 10 seconds!

Wow, your trip is going fast! It seems you’ve fallen down the road trip food hole though.

My husband and I live for date night at Whole Foods, and if there is a new one? We are on it like a prom date!
My favorite gas station snack is Cinnamon Mentos.. they’re hard to find, but I love them.

I’ve never seen cinnamon! I love Mentos though. Need to find those.

I love how Elvis accompanies you all your way to your new home! And you have surely lived up to strange but good at this trip!
And don’t get me even started with Whole Foods. My husband teases me all the time as according to him he’s never seen me more excited that in a Whole Foods store. Though I think he overexaggerates 😉
But I tell you a little secret, when we were in Las Vegas last year we kept the rental car for two more days just for lunch at Whole Foods. Ooops 😀

I’ve done that too!!!! That Vegas WF in Summerlin is nice. 😉

I’d chose Whole Foods any day over a real restuarant. Looks like you guys had a good trip. I don’t blame you for just wanting to get there. That’s a looooong trip!

I get excited to explore any and all new grocery stores. Whole Foods or podunk. Because you never know what you will find when you are in a Walmart in the middle of freaking nowhere!

I haven’t done a road trip in such a long time. I would probably eat so much I wouldn’t be able to get out of the car seat. Haha.

So awesome that you ate at The Big Texan!! I went to college an hour south of Amarillo – in all the times I’ve been to and through Amarillo I’ve never eaten at that place.

wow i love how you made a protein sauce for your waffles, now that’s my kinda jam! i love making sauces, the blender is my friend for life. true life story: after your carribean post, i made this curry that night and found a bottle of carribean spice blend and added it. then made coconut quinoa with black beans and coconut cream. SO good! but the strange but good part is that i blended a whole box of basil leaves, bunch of cilantro, garlic, ginger, lemon, and bit of oil – made it into this asian style chimichurri sauce. we ate the thai/carribean curry with this weird green sauce on top. i’m telling ya, it worked!!! work work work it 🙂
i seriously want that bobble head elvis.
    happy friday!

Uh yeah, just did the Whole Foods run to get a real meal when I was in Vegas. Felt slightly guilty about not getting local food, but veggies and brown rice is just what I needed. BTW, on moving— you mean you didn’t get to that point where you run out of boxes and just start throwing **** in laundry baskets and garbage bags? Good job!

I got really lucky and had a friend who just moved – she donated all her boxes to me!
