One Day I’ll Eat Like a Normal Human… #WIAW

August 2, 2017 By Laura

I swear… one day I’ll eat like a normal human again.

Today is not that day.  Today is sushi and wine.

I'm starting my own wine collection...

How about if I do the chores, only I do them with wine in hand?  I promise not to spill.

First, I have to motivate to do said chores.  After moving for basically 2 weeks, I don’t want to do anything and our house is a chaotic sh*tshow.  Seriously.  It looks like an episode of hoarders.  #reallife

As a result… we didn’t have real food until 4:30.  PM.

Breakfast

Breakfast was our morning cocktail and vitamins.  I caught up on some work, and before I knew it we had to rush out the door to take the RV to the storage spot.

Lunch

Our morning adventure took longer than expected.  We had to drive an hour north.  Then, when we finally got there and all backed into the space, Vegas realized she forgot the key to the lock that secures the trailer to the hitch.  After a minimal (given the situation) amount of cursing and trying to drive the car out of the hitch (bad idea), we found a maintenance guy who had a saw thingy (technical term, obv) that could cut it off.

The original plan was to go to lunch, but we were now running late to my pre-op appointment.  A gas station lunch ensued.

Dinner

Post-appointment, we had an infuriating issue with the post office to deal with.  It’s along story, but they’ve made it almost impossible for us to change our address.  I’d already gone postal (tee hee ;)) on them twice and I really, really wanted to go to the gym.  Vegas took one for the team.  She dropped me at the gym and went to deal with the post office.  The issue may or may not be resolved… we’ll know for sure in 2 weeks.  F^#&!@* postal service…

All this to say, we were starving by 4:30 and had an early dinner at Rakitori.  Sushi for me, ramen for Vegas.  Plus some sides (the edamame, pork dumplings and wine didn’t get pictured).

I almost couldn’t choke down the whole pieces of baby octopus, but I managed. Had to protect my reputation when Vegas joked she finally found something I wouldn’t eat. 😉

Salmon nigiri with fresh wasabi. If you’ve never had fresh wasabi, do yourself a favor and seek it out.

My Cucumber Roll

Vegas’ Ramen bowl. It was GIANT… and delicious. It contained pork belly, a pork dumpling, egg, and chicken yakitori. GIANT.

Like I said, we were starving.

I ordered more of the Hello Fresh meals, but the first one arrives Saturday.  Clearly I should have started that earlier given our chaos.  Don’t forget that $30 promo code (SPRINT30) if still good if you guys want to try out your own Hello Fresh box.

And then Vegas bought me pre-op flowers and it was all okay.

Would you have eaten the octopus?

What the longest you’ve ever gone without food?  I think yesterday was the longest for me!

Pssh normal is overrated. Although I might have keeled over by about 1:00 from hunger. Maybe it was all the adrenaline from the nasty post office experience that kept you going? The pun made my day, by the way.

LOL! Thanks… I was hoping someone would notice that one. 😉

I was the same way when we were moving! The days go by so quickly mealtime just doesn’t make the priority list. Also, If Riley isn’t there to cook for me or make suggestions, I’m a lot more inclined to just pick at stuff until I’m full haha.

I’m usually not like that, but this last week I didn’t even care. I ate a bag of Ruffles for lunch one day. Oops…

Seriously can’t even count the number of days that my eating wasn’t normal, life happens! Moving is so hard, there are so many things you need to change, my advice is to keep drinking wine and eating sushi 😉

    Sending you good healing vibes.

I think the longest I’ve gone without food was when I had my wisdom teeth out at 14—I had so many complications, I could barely eat anything for about 2 weeks. There were definitely a few days in there where I remember eating felt like way too much trouble and I was in too much pain to feel hungry. Thank god I had them all taken out at once and never had to do that again.

    • Laura says

      August 7, 2017 at 1:10 PM

Ohhhh… I was really lucky that I didn’t have any trouble when mine were taken. It was still a rough week though! *shudder*

I like Tako/Octopus, but I don’t know about those guys. I’m more of a tentacle girl.

wait, sushi and wine is not normal? humph – normal’s overrated then.

(and yes. USPS suuuuuuucks. I was on hold with them for 50 minutes today. FIFTY. and finally hung up. GAH.)

*fingers crossed* for an uneventful but highly successful surgery!

      August 7, 2017 at 1:16 PM

USPS can suck it. Seriously. I’ll have to recount the whole story to you one day. It’s unreal.

I am hoping to plan for moving day so we always have access to food… But you just know it never turns out that way! Moving has to be one of the most stressful things – urgh. Add the post office and you have my permission to hide under the duvet!
Sending lots of love and hugs for Friday! Wish I could bring wine… Oh who am I kidding, I would bring whisky 😉

    • Laura says

      August 7, 2017 at 1:28 PM

HA! I’d accept your whiskey. Especially today!

I have to renew my passport and I’m bracing myself to deal with the lunacy that is the US Government and their documents so I feel for you on the postal situation!!

    • Laura says

      August 7, 2017 at 1:33 PM

      Thank you, thank you. 🙂

I have to renew my passport too. I guess while I’m bedridden I could be researching that. I got global entry, so I think I have to do it differently…

Pre-op flowers. Holy shit, what’s she gonna do post-op. She’s a much better nurse than me. I intend to take the Hubby to the doctor but that’s about it. 🙂 I might feed him too.

    • Laura says

      August 7, 2017 at 1:52 PM

You should definitely feed him. Don’t want to get arrested for neglect or anything.

I hope you never eat like a human again! Love me some sushi, I have to limit my sushi eating because rice doesn’t fit into my diet plan. That salmon nigiri is making my mouth water. Vegas is so thoughtful!

    • Laura says

      August 7, 2017 at 1:55 PM

Do you ever get cucumber rolls? I usually get one cucumber and one handroll or a nigiri to limit the rice binge.

I’ve had grilled octopus which I thought I would detest but It was pretty tasty. Take care and good luck with the USPS.

Grilled is my favorite! I’ll be sticking to grilled tentacles from now on!
