Old School #WIAW

November 29, 2017 By Laura

This is a sort of old school day of eats.

Not that old school… there’s definitely meat (anyone remember the vegetarian days?).

I'd be vegetarian if bacon grew on trees.

This post is old school in that there are no recipes, rather just random assemblies of food with ingredients lists.  I’ve been cleaning up/deleting old posts and it made me miss my more random posts.  Now we care about stats and pins.

I’m not saying this is bad or good – there are pros and cons – but its much more relaxing to write a post without worrying over pin-able images!

WIAW - New

Breakfast:

We always start with our morning cocktail.

Then, I made a breakfast based solely on my cravings.  Ricotta toast with bacon “sprinkles” and #yolkporn.  Plus some spinach to even it out.

Ricotta toast is the new avocado toast in my house.  It’s so delicious and creamy!  I love it on warm toast, topped with salty bacon.  It’s also good with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey.

Lunch:

I’ve been too lazy to grocery shop, so I went digging in the pantry and found canned salmon.  Salmon salad it was!  I’ve actually never made a salmon salad, but I like tuna salad… how different could it be?

Salmon salad - quick and easy!

Here’s what went into my salmon salad:

  • 1 can salt-free salmon
  • 1 Piñata apple
  • Large handful of broccoli slaw
  • Scoop of plain hummus
  • Slosh of apple cider vinegar
  • Pepper and Sriracha on top

It turned out really well!  I ate half and had half leftover for the next day’s lunch.  Over a bed of spinach with some rosemary lentil crackers, it hit the spot.

Dinner:

You may have already seen this on Instagram, but the genius move of the evening was thawing a frozen turkey burger to make meatballs.  With my semi-homemade sauce and chickpea pasta from Banaza, it was actually a pretty damn good dinner!

Full disclosure: Banaza sent me over their pasta to try for free.  I really do like it though!  Even Vegas approved.

There was also a glass of red wine involved, plus some dark chocolate for dessert.  I can’t end the day without a sweet treat!

I love simple meals, they often turn out to be the best! I always crave something sweet at the end of the day and rarely miss dessert but maybe thats just because its habit. Love the old school style (with the added meat, haha)

I don’t know how I lived without meat for so long… LOL!

This “old school” thing was made for me! First off, I had no clue salmon came in a can like tuna. I’m serious so stop laughing. Second, I think I can make every damn thing on this list and thoroughly enjoy it! I mean, ricotta toast??? YES!

How’d you know I was laughing? 😉 Just don’t make the mistake of getting the done-in canned salmon. That was a very bad experience.

I ALWAYS need a sweet treat to end the night. Funny though I don’t really crave sweets after lunch though. And I can’t wait for holiday baking, typically that means we spend one night making and eating cookies for dinner, hehe.

Cookies for dinner sounds like the perfect night!

I never stopped “old school” blogging, haha. It’s just too much work! Ricotta toast sounds amazing. Maybe some blueberries and little drizzle of honey on top? Mmmmm.
I prefer a third glass of wine to a sweet treat at the end of the day. I always notice if I’m not having wine, though, that I crave something chocolaty. Maybe my wine drinking is keeping me away from the sweets.

You’re WAY smarter than I am! Hahaha!

I wish I was the same with the wine. I want more wine AND chocolate to go with it. Doh.

Simple food for the win. I hate that elaborate BS that takes longer than 30 minutes. I also hate sauces. I want to actually taste the damn food. And I am not going to lie, this goes for HOT SAUCE too. I just cannot do spicy, AT ALL – if it touches my tongue…. I can no longer taste anything and my tongue burns. NOPE!!! Not for me!

    • Laura says

      December 5, 2017 at 11:24 PM

Wait. You hate hot sauce?! I’m not sure we can still be friends…
