Get off Your Ass and Vote on November 6th

November 5, 2018 By Laura

The 5-day weather forecast is predicting rain on Tuesday in Atlanta.  I said to Vegas “I can’t believe it’s going to rain on Election Day.  It’s going to hurt the turnout!  At least it won’t be too cold.”

Think about it.  The WEATHER could negatively impact voter turnout.  A little rain – in a state where the Governer’s race is tied – might deter people from coming out to vote.  That’s ridiculous.

“When you sit at home, and your friends sit at home and don’t go out to vote, you DISRESPECT YOUR ELDERS.” – Oprah

Less than 100 years ago, women were not allowed to vote.  Less than 150 years ago, African American men didn’t have the right to vote.

In 2018, some people won’t come out because of the weather.  Or because their vote “won’t count.”  Or they just “ran out of time.”  You’re not the only one wrestling a job, the clock, the weather, traffic, kids… it’s not an excuse.  This is ONE day.  One hour (maybe two…) in one day.  You’ve blown more time scrolling through your Facebook feed than it will take you to go vote.

You have a civic duty to vote.  Don’t be apathetic or lazy.  This is your time to have input about who will represent what you stand for.  People fought to the death to have the right to vote.  My own Representative John Lewis’ skull was cracked 53 years ago in Selma while he was marching for civil rights; to be allowed to exercise his right to vote.

Look at what is going on around you.  Last week, 15 people died because of hate crimes.  The shooters were domestic terrorists, not immigrants from caravans.

Vote like a bunch of school children were shot and a bunch of other children were put into camps indefinitely bc they werent white and like a journalist was murdered and like you are being lied to daily by rich liars who harass / assault women & wont renounce white supremacy

On November 6th, your vote does matter.  Races have been decided by just a few votes. Be an engaged citizen.

You have power – use it at the ballot box.

We have a really tight race in GA… but we have Oprah and Obama on our side!

Is the race tight on your state?

Did you early vote?  I always like to go the day of – feels more festive. *shrug*

I like to go day of because I like to wear the sticker.

I am so nervous about this election. Moreso than 2016 (only because I never in a million years thought Trump would win.)

HA! I’m not going to lie… I want my sticker, too!

I’m really nervous too, and for the same reason. Fingers crossed!!!

If nothing else, at least we’ll be able to buy alcohol before 12:30 on Sundays. *sigh*

You KNOW I will be out voting as soon as I possibly can and then I will be obsessed with the outcome for the rest of the day! I absolutely LOVE the blue wave hair – YES! And Connecticut actually has a tight race!? We are the BLUEST BLUE state in the history of blue states and this jackass Republican (ok, he’s not a total jackass but just NO!) may take the votes. I’ve been campaigning to everyone I know to get out and vote Democrat!!!

That shocks me about CT! I had no idea… I keep seeing GA, TX, and FL all over the news. You have to have some balls to be running as a Republican anymore. Associating with the party is becoming more poisonous by the minute.

It is really close in my State. I’m so glad your spreading the word to vote! It’s so important!

It’s hard to believe that it’s been less than 100 years since we got the right to vote. I mailed my ballot in last week since I’m working. I don’t think it’s thatt close in my state but I also didn’t expect the latter bit of 2016 to happen either, so I’m definitely keeping my fingers crossed!

Right?! It’s scary, really. We take so much for granted.

No worries! Just promise me you voted. 🙂

Once again we all watch on the other side of the world knowing that the results of your Election Day are going to impact all of us. I hope everyone who read this in the States voted and realised how much their one vote impacts the world over. America has so much power… It’s scary when that power is in the hands of the wrong people…

Scary is an understatement! I wish we’d had a little more turnout, but looking at the big picture the election went quite well for the “good guys.”

I dropped off my ballot at 7:30pm but I did my part! The sticker was left in my purse because it was just too late to wear… I basically went straight home after. =)

Go you!!! Stickers are secondary (though I’m not going to lie – that’s half the reason I went day of).

It amazes me how close so many of these races have been… Even in the SoCal district I just moved from (CA 49) and in CT where I am now, both races were pretty damn close! EVERY VOTE MATTERS… it’s unfortunate that places like FL have have been a shit show in properly counting everything (again…), and I know that we’ve talked about how crazy the voter suppression has been where you are. It’s all so frustrating!

Did you see the Orange County results?! I was ecstatic.

Don’t get me started on FL or GA. Sigh…
