Flipping Out + Designer Whey Winner

September 26, 2013 By Laura

Flipping out isn’t always a bad thing.

Let’s be real though – usually it isn’t pretty.

When I saw strongWOMAN Tara post about tire flipping, I immediately texted my trainer and asked if we could incorporate that into our session that night.  I have no idea why I do these things to myself.

I didn’t realize how heavy tires were!  I did the first two lengths of the gym with a 225 lb tire.  Just when I was patting myself on the back, he decided we needed to up the weight.  The next 2 lengths were done with a 265 lb tire.  That’s when the real hell fun began.

This is the last bit:

For some reason he refused to bring me a beer after that… then made me do more legs!  How rude!

______________________________________________________________________________________

Just in case you didn’t come here to watch my huff and puff, I’ll go ahead and do as promised. Remember this giveaway?

The winner for the Designer Whey 1 year supply of protein is…

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Congratulations!!!  For those of you who’d still like a sweet protein deal, check out Jody’s site for a discount code on you next order of Designer Whey!

You better believe I had a healthy serving of Designer Whey after tire day!

***

I knew my butt would be sore, but my forearms are also STIFF after that flippin’ tire.

Have you ever flipped a tire?  Would you willingly do so?

Do you yell or grunt when you’re lifting something especially heavy?  I can’t help it!

I love DW so I am soo excited right now!! Weeee!
And no I haven’t ever flipped a tire. Or have I…? No I don’t think so. Intense!

Maybe you’ll flip one after all that DW protein. 😉

Yay! I love the video! I need to film more of my training but we’re usually using our phones to time.

The tyre is definitely too light for you. You’re barely using your legs at all You want to pick a tyre you can flip for 2, maybe 3, reps but with a lot of struggle. I think about 350lbs, if your gym has something around that weight. The lightest tyre at my gym is 285lbs, but the next one up is 550lbs. Pretty annoying because it’s either way too easy or completely draining to get one rep out! And it sucks because they haven’t announced the weight of the tyre at my comp yet, so I don’t know what to train for.

Next up you’ve gotta try some log pressing, and then you can sign up for strongwoman 😉

    • Laura says

      September 27, 2013 at 12:25 PM

I texted my trainer to tell him he needs bigger tires. 😉

I’ll strongwomen if you come here and train me. Bwhahaha!

That looks so intense! I’d definitely give tire flipping a shot, if my gym offered it.

  10. Lee says

I am quite positive that I could not flip a tire. You’re bad-ass and your trainer totally should have given you a beer!

    • Laura says

      September 27, 2013 at 12:28 PM

I don’t think you should try in your delicate state. 😉

    September 26, 2013 at 8:31 AM

I’ve never even thought about attempting to flip the tire at the gym. Maybe banging the crap out of it with the sledge hammer for fun 😉 When I worked out at the gym, I tried not to grunt, but at home – all bets are off!

      September 27, 2013 at 12:34 PM

That sounds tough! Really tough! I’m not really good at pushing myself with weights. I get to a point where it seems hard and think I have made it far enough.

    • Laura says

      September 27, 2013 at 1:25 PM

That’s where it’s awesome to have a buddy or work with a trainer periodically. You don’t necessarily need to pay someone every week, but when you get in a rut a session or two can be a big help!

Ummm… you’re hardcore! That video is so cool! It totally makes sense your forearms are sore, too. Isn’t is crazy how when we do really different things we find out we have muscles we didn’t know we could make sore?! Kinda awesome 🙂

Dang was crossing my fingers for this giveaway! Oh well!

Don’t be ashamed Laura. I would call myself a quiet grunter at the gym. I don’t mean to, but sometimes it slips out!!!

HA! I love how we love to add more pain to our workouts. I think it is just our competitive side that comes out and I think deep down we really like to be tortured (in a good way of course). I’ve never flipped a tire, but would definitely be up for it. You ROCK woman! And thank you for all your carrot recipes…I’m slightly obsessed.

    • Laura says

You’re so right. And I think I got faster on that last set because I knew he was videoing it. #gymproblems

I love seeing what you’re up to with all those carrots! They’re my favorite veggie. Check out this recipe too: https://www.sprint2thetable.com/2012/02/super-foods-miso-carrot-soup/

I used to love it when we’d flip tires at my old crossfit gym! And yeah, I’m a bit of a grunter too…I swear it helps you lift heavier when there’s sounds effects! 😉

The tire flipping looks kinda fun (and hey, you asked for it)l, but how do you do it without hurting your back? Grunting– lifting the most I can, most definitely so (but heavy lifting is something I haven’t done in a long time).

    • Laura says

      September 30, 2013 at 9:41 PM

It is fun! The trick is to lift with your legs and not your back. Put some booty in it! 😉

        October 3, 2013 at 12:08 PM

Yes, of course you were using your legs, it’s just that your back looked rounded and that scared me.
