Elvis Jicama Porridge

July 11, 2014 By Laura

The King needs no introduction.

That’s code for “I couldn’t think of anything cleaver.”

Seriously though. Β How can you go wrong with peanut butter, bananas, bacon and chocolate? Β Maybe if you’re vegan… but you could add TVP bacon or salted nuts instead! Β The key is the sweet andΒ the salty.

Elvis Jicama Porridge

You see the good, so where’s the strange? Β I’m assuming some of you will think the jicama is (still) strange. Β Think of it like chicken. Β Or oatmeal if you want a more breakfast-y analogy. Β It takes on any flavor.

What results is a bowl of creamy, peanut buttery porridge topped with sweet ‘naners and chocolate with salty deliciousness. Β Mmmmm… bacon…

Elvis Jicama Porridge

I need a cold shower…

Elvis Jicama Porridge - a healthy, fiber-rich breakfast!

Elvis JicamaΒ Porridge

  • JicamaΒ porridge
  • 2 T peanut flour (or peanut butter)
  • Banana slices
  • Bacon pieces
  • Chocolate Syrup

Prepare jicama porridge according to these instructions, adding peanut flour at the end.

Top with desired amount of banana slices, bacon “sprinkles,” and chocolate syrup. Β I made a quick syrup using cocoa powder, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and a little stevia. Β

Devour.

I could get on board with this- never tried jicama but from what I heard, I am almost certain I would love it! As for favorite oatmeal toppings, I love toasted almonds & banana slices!

I hear it’s hard to find outside the Americas. I think parsnip would work well too!

This is for sure a very strange combination πŸ˜€ But nevertheless it sounds appealing!
My favorite oatmeal topping is depending on the weather. In fall I love me my apple pie topping and in the summertime I prefer blueberries and hazelnutbutter.
    Have a lovely Friday πŸ™‚

Breakfast of kings! I still haven’t eaten jicama, but I’m going on a serious hunt for the stuff. I’m thinking this might work with cassava too – which I have (and bacon and chocolate are always in stock) – so an experiment is on the cards!

Let me know if you try it! It works with parsnips and rutabaga.

I still need to try Jicama! Banana and Peanut Butter is definitely one combo made in heaven. Try banana and the tigernutbutter I gave you. Even better.
Favorite Oatmeal Topping is coconut butter and greek yogurt! Happy Weekend lady!

      July 16, 2014 at 12:23 PM

I have!!! That tigernut butter and the flour is CRACK. I love/hate you for that one.

I am obsessed with Jicama and used to eat it all the time when I lived in Mexico! No jicama out here but I have been loving radish, random I know but radish chips are the bees knees! This looks delish! I am eating loads of oatmeal again and have been making nutmeg cinnamon combos with peanut butter, it makes my heart sing every AM! Lots of love, C

I make bacon chocolate chip cookies… why didn’t I add PB?! That must happen.

Elvis would be proud and dedicate a song to you. ‘Jicama House Rock’, anybody?!
If Jicama ever was available over here I’d put on some Elvis tunes and turn that root into porridge. Minus the bacon and plus almond butter and salt.

So there’s a burger place near here that has a burger with bacon, banana slices and peanut butter. So basically, I need to try it…or just make this to tide me over until then because I’m really intrigued by the combo πŸ˜‰

    • Laura says

      July 16, 2014 at 12:44 PM

We have one here – The Vortex has just about anything you could want on a burger. I took a bite… but that was all I could take,

  15. Haley @ Running with diapers says

    July 11, 2014 at 9:15 AM

That looks simply delicious. I’m a big fan of the Elvis sandwich, so this is looking as close to heavenly as porridge can be.

Rather than think you weren’t creative with the title, i think just the opposite! I didn’t know jicama could be prepared this way. Thanks!!

That’s so cool, the link up! I think I’ll link up the strange calamari I had for WIAW. πŸ™‚ but I can go wrong with peanut butter and bananas part, and the chocolate had to be low carb because I’m keto-paleo πŸ™‚ but the bacon for sure!!

    • Laura says

      July 16, 2014 at 12:49 PM

I’m so glad you did – I love calamari and that looked so cool!

I’m sure you know this, but be careful with your kidneys on the keto thing.
