PB&J Vodka + Chocolate PB Smoothie

April 17, 2012 By Laura

New products sometimes blow my mind.

Often they seem like obvious conclusions (hello, peanut butter Oreos), at times they aren’t as obvious but still delicious (Vega’s vanilla chai protein powder)… and then there are times when I have to say WTF?!

Ladies and gentlemen, PB&J Vodka, by Van Gogh.

I wish I were kidding.

From Van Gogh’s website:

“The fragrance of our PB&J vodka is predominantly of peanuts complemented by the fresh fruit aroma of raspberry. In the mouth, the roles are reversed with the raspberry taking center stage supported by the toasty flavor of peanut butter and a hint of vanilla on the side.”

Now you can legit drink your lunch.*

In other news, I made a smoothie.  *One you could really drink for lunch.

A chocolate peanut butter protein smoothie was all I wanted after a particularly hard weight session in the gym.  This totally hit the spot… special thanks to the avocado for making this a perfectly creamy treat.

Topped with my new love Hemp Seeds.  If you haven’t tried them yet… you should.  They are fantastically chewy and nutty.  I eat them standing in the pantry doorway.

Chocolate Peanut Butter (Avocado) Smoothie

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1/4 avocado
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 C unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 T peanut flour
  • 10 drops cocoa NuNaturals liquid Stevia
  • 1 tsp cocoa (optional – I like it extra-chocolate-y)
  • shake of salt
  • pinch guar gum

Put it in a blender and blend away!

***

I want to work in product development in my next life.

What are your thoughts on PB&J-flavored vodka?

Have you made any good/new smoothie concoctions lately?

Eeewwww! That is an insult to the world of alcohol! Then again i’m still massively hungover so any type of alcohol sounds disgusting to me right now! :/

I bet it would be good in a smoothie. I can’t imagine what else you’d mix it with though.

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 9:44 AM

      Like a PB&J mudslide? I could see that…

Am I the only one that finds it a bit crazy that a classic kid favorite food is now an adult beverage? Haha! I don’t think I could do it. PBJ in a drink just doesnt sound appealing.

I’m so glad you shared that! It’s too funny. I love their espresso vodka… not that I drink much vodka, but it makes for a wonderful pick-me-up espresso martini.

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 9:46 AM

The term “pick-me-up espresso martini” is my new favorite. Can I order that at Starbucks? 😉

That vodka sounds foul!!! I really liked my smoothie that I made this morning even though it was ugly haha. Carrot, OJ, flax, frozen strawberries and spinach. Simple but delicious!

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 9:52 AM

      Ugly smoothies taste better! 🙂

  8. Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says

    April 17, 2012 at 10:07 AM

Okay- so it IS real? I NEED IT. I’ve seen PB+J martinis on drink menus before, and I always think they sound awesome! I bet it’s really good mixed with almond milk, actually! (Don’t knock it til you try it!)
I keep forgetting to try avocado in a smoothie! Does it really make it as smooth as a banana would? I’ve got to remember that one…

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 9:54 AM

Yup – it’s real! I don’t know about vodka and milk… even if it’s non-dairy… let me know if you try that. 🙂

Avocado makes smoothies super creamy. I actually like it better than banana!

  9. Heather @ Better With Veggies says

    April 17, 2012 at 10:11 AM

Okay, I really need to make a smoothie and add some avocado – I keep forgetting! 🙂 And PB&J vodka…hmm….not sure I’m on board with that one, but I bet it’s better than it sounds. 🙂

I would definitely give the PB&J vodka a try! HA. I love avocados in a smoothie. So darn creammmyyyy. And PEANUT BUTTER OREOS? This one is new to me- when and where can I get my hand on these?

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 9:56 AM

      I wouldn’t turn down a freebie… but I am not running out to buy a bottle. 🙂

I’ve seen the Oreos at Publix. So bad… but sooooo good!

I think I’ll try the whipped cream flavored vodka first!

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 9:57 AM

I smelled it once and couldn’t imagine a drink with it. Too sweet!

Hahah I remember reading about it and being quite intrigued! I’m waiting for a Reeses flavoured vodka to be created!

    • Laura says

      THAT I would buy.

  13. Biz says

    April 17, 2012 at 12:26 PM

OMG, I think I threw up in my mouth a little bit just reading that vodka flavor – ew!

  14. Laura @ LauraLivesLife says

    April 17, 2012 at 12:52 PM

That vodka sounds perfect. I think it’d be perfect in a white russian-esque cocktail. But then again, I’m a sucker for PB&J.

  15. Candy @ Healthy In Candy Land says

    April 17, 2012 at 1:06 PM

Not too sure about that vodka–it doesn’t sound very appealing to me. I’d rather have the real thing. Then maybe a shot of plain vodka afterward. (I kid!)
I’ve been in a major smoothie rut lately–it’s delicious, but the same thing every day because when I do change it up I never like it as much as my usual. Chocolate sun warrior, almond milk, spinach, a few pieces of frozen pineapple and some frozen raspberries (or blueberries if I’m *really* feeling wild). I must try your latest concoction! I really need to replenish my peanut flour supply. Where do you get yours?

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:09 AM

THAT’S the way to do it! 🙂

I don’t use pineapple enough in my smoothies – it’s so good for you!

I just bought the hemp seeds last week! I haven’t used them in a smoothie yet. Can’t wait to try it. Totally delish! I made a similar smoothie the other day, http://goodcleanfood.wordpress.com/2012/04/15/tastes-like-nummy-beautiful-butterflies/ but yours looks more protein enriched and super tasty!

I love the idea of putting avocado in a smoothie – never occurred to me before!

  18. Denise@ Crazy Mother Runner says

Its ironic that you are discussing peanut butter and jam vodka.. this morning I made a pb & j smoothie – made with spinach, kale, vanilla protein powder, 1/2 an apple, pre-soaked almonds, peanut butter, frozen raspberries and blueberries, stevia and topped off with the hemp hearts you had today. It tasted exactly like the pb & j combo you get in a sandwich – delish!

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:14 AM

Did you add the vodka too? 😉

I am going to try this!

I think my stomach turned a little at the sight of that vodka. Seriously, who would drink that?

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:19 AM

I dunno… would you try it if it was free? That’s the only way I would give it a shot!

  22. Suzi says

    April 17, 2012 at 3:22 PM

Hey there, I am not sure I could go for that vodka, Personally I only add water and lime to mine. That smoothie is an interesting combo for sure. Being the old hippie that I am I prefer my avocado with chips and alfalfa sprouts, LOL. Love those hemp seeds.

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:25 AM

Haha – that doesn’t make you an old hippie in my book. 😉 I love avocado anyway you can serve it!

  23. Ashley @ Freckles & Spice says

    April 17, 2012 at 3:43 PM

That vodka does not sound appealing at all to me. But bb loves white russians and I hate them. But I think that might be the only way I would drink a white russian or the pbj vodka.

I loooooove hemp seeds lately too. They were on my yogurt this am! You are right on about the chewy and the nutty.

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:27 AM

I can’t get on board with milk in my booze… but I’m more of a whiskey or wine drinker. 🙂

      • Ashley @ Freckles & Spice says

        April 18, 2012 at 10:29 AM

Completely agree! that is why I white russians gross me out. I love whiskey/bourbon and a good red wine.

        • Laura says

          April 18, 2012 at 10:30 AM

          Cheers to that!

  24. Rachel @ My Naturally Frugal Family says

    April 17, 2012 at 4:08 PM

I don’t think that vodka would agree with me AT ALL. I like vodka but mixed with juices not peanut butter.

As for the hemp hearts that I completely love them as well…perfect a top a fresh salad.

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:29 AM

What it you make a berry martini and rimmed the glass with PB and graham crackers? Hmmmm…

  25. Kiri W. says

    April 17, 2012 at 5:13 PM

Uuuuh, I dodn’t even like PB&J regularly, but as Vodka? That sounds almost as bad as bacon vodka.
Hmmm, nothing outrageous since my prickly pear smoothie…

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:32 AM

I understand the vodka… but you don’t like the sandwich?! I’m questioning your judgment. 😉

Wow. Vodka flavors are getting weirder and weirder. First birthday cake and now PB&J? I can’t imagine having more than a sip of that but I’m sure it makes for fun shots. What’s next, grilled cheese flavored rum?

    • Laura says

      April 18, 2012 at 10:36 AM

I know!!! Grilled cheese rum just made me puke a little in my mouth. Thanks for that.
