A Case of the Tuesdays + WIAW

December 10, 2014 By Laura

Total monkey.

There’s nothing more distracting than wanting to be somewhere you’re not.

Actually, I don’t really care where I am.  It’s more about who’s with me.  The company makes the location.  Which is why yesterday I had a case of the Tuesdays.

Case of the Tuesdays

But now it’s Wednesday.  The next sunrise I see will be with Vegas.  With the first Christmas tree I’ve had in 5 or 6 years.  And flowers.  I bought a poinsettia for the first time ever.  Who am I?!

This WIAW I turned out a lot more prepared-looking than it felt!  Either way, it was good.

Breakfast:

After my morning cocktail, I ate my morning sludge.  While baking a pie.  ‘Tis the season!

Breakfast was a concoction I’ve been eating a lot lately.  TVP and oats made with carob powder, cinnamon, chcolate liquid stevia, and an egg white.  Topped with blackberries. It’s actually really good!

TVP Carob Oats

Mid-Morning Snack:

Arugula salad with raw zucchini, pepper, and fresh lemon juice with my Sizzlefish salmon. I really love salmon.  Would it be acceptable to eat it every meal?

Salmon and Arugula

Lunch:

Shredded up no-salt deli turkey with red bell pepper and tossed with salsa, nutritional yeast, and balsamic vinegar.  With one of my Apple Carrot Protein Muffins for dessert.

Turkey Salad and Muffin

Mid-Afternoon Snack(s):

I was feeling a bar.  Have you guys tried Think Thin bars?  I think they changed formulas… for the better!  I got this at Whole Paycheck Foods (obvi).  That Pumpkin Spice.  Get.  It.

Think Thin Pumpkin Spice

Dinner:

This… well… it was a little hurried.  But whatever.  Corn tortilla topped with red peppers, egg whites, nutritional yeast, and one tasty local #yolkporn moment.

Dessert:

Milkshake Greek yogurt bowl topped with popcorn, chocolate chips, and cocoa powder sauce.  I used the new Quest vanilla milkshake protein powder, which I love.  It was an excellent post-workout dessert.

Is it just me, or has this been the longest week ever?  An. Tici. Pation.  (Name that movie.)

What is your favorite oatmeal mix-in?  Besides nut butter… too easy! 😉

What’s your favorite holiday decoration?  I love having a real tree – they smell so good!

I’d love to have a real tree but not going to happen this year. I love mixing in frozen fruit and hemp seeds into my oats. I like adding egg whites as well. So yummy! Yay for Vegas!! Hope your case of the Tuesday is gone 🙂

Salmon for every meal once we become millionaires. Wait… we should totally invent salmon oatmeal. Seriously. Fish broth, miso,…I’m getting ideas here.

Minus the meat and eggs I want you to become my personal chef during the week. Seriously, your weekday meals are way more creative than mine.
And we never had artificial trees so yes to real ones. My favourite decoractions? All of those reminding me of ny childhood – handmade ornaments included.

When I know I’m leaving for a trip, the week always seems to drag forever. I add in cinnamon apples to my oatmeal – just nuke apples with stevia and cinnamon and bit of lemon juice. Save travels tomorrow!

    • Laura says

      December 15, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Ohhhh… I never thought to cook the apples first. I tjust toss ’em in. I’ll have to try this! Sounds more pie-lie. 🙂

I just put int in a paper bag, fold it over a new times to seal it, and push the popcorn button on my microwave! Really easy, and you can shake on any flavors you like.

My favorite oats add in in a blended banana and handful of spinach… its like a green smoothie in your oatmeal… you just and the blend to your oats while they are cooking and then you can put nuts or berries or pb or whatever on top – nutmeg and cinnamon work well!

    • Laura says

      December 15, 2014 at 4:35 PM

I love it! I put spinach in everything!

  24. Mary Legare Whaley says

    December 10, 2014 at 9:48 PM

I hope you got a REAL tree (base on your ending question…I’m assuming it’s real!) When people pull out their “tree” from the attic every year?…I’m like…no. That sucks. It needs to be real. Christmas has a smell. It smells like a daggum pine tree. I’m getting my tree this weekend. I wait until just after the rush, that’s when they go on sale BIG TIME. You’re right about company. I can be at the most pompous event in Charleston and be miserable because everyone is pretentious and only cares about selfies, or I can be at a post-5K-race party with a bunch of sweaty badasses and have the time of my life. That happened last weekend.

Oatmeal mix-ins….I only eat cold oatmeal (hot is just a bit too mushy for me) but I add protein powder (so obvious/easy), no cal sweetener, and plain Greek yogurt to my base. I don’t get creative with my oatmeal base, but I’ll throw nuts or fruit on top. I’ve smashed bananas and mixed them in and topped it off with walnuts. I’ve also thrown pumpkin in my base (with pumpkin pie spice) and topped it with pecans and maple syrup. And another time, I added dark cocoa powder to the base, and topped it with raspberries and Walden Farms no cal chocolate sauce. And granola…I think. I’m sure it’s been done time and time again…

My favorite decoration is the tree. But really………I just love the LIGHTS!

    • Laura says

      December 15, 2014 at 5:38 PM

Hot oatmeal is too mushy for you? This is mind boggling for some reason… but I guess I get it. But yogurt is mushy!

      • Mary Legare Whaley says

        December 15, 2014 at 5:56 PM

Maybe gloppy/slimy is a better description. I just struggle with certain textures. I will eat it hot occasionally….after intentionally overcooking it. But your photos make hot oatmeal look amazing, despite my strange aversion.

          December 15, 2014 at 10:16 PM

I will take that as a compliment.

My favorite oatmeal mix in are chia seeds, so filling.
A real Christmas tree is something I yearn for every year. I love seeing/smelling it and tend to spend more time in the room it is in. This sounds a bit cheesy but I love my Ugly Sweater Nutcracker from CB2, he cracks me up every time I walk by.
Hope Wednesday brought you great joy!
