Top 13 in 2013

You guys like dessert.

I guess that’s why we get along?

Happy New Year!!!

As I looked back at the top posts of 2013, I knew there would be a lot of sweeter dishes.  But whoa.  Of the top 13 2013 posts, 6 were sweet recipes.  What I didn’t realize was that the Work It Out posts are popular too!  I’ll do a better job to writing more of those in 2014 – I’ve been pushing it at the gym, but slacking on the writing.

Thank you to everyone for all of the visits, comments, and many, many laughs in 2013.  I’ve loved getting to know so many awesome people this year, and look forward to continuing these relationships for years to come.

Enough much!  Here’s the lucky (top) 13 to start out ’14…

Top 13 in 2013

13. Work It Out: Gym Confessions

I’m not sure if this was popular because of the announcement or because it was funny… I think both.

12. My Morning Cocktail

My Morning Cocktail

We all know I love a good drink.  Why not start the day with one?  I’ve had this every morning for at least 2 years now.  It’s so energizing – it has eliminated the need for coffee!

11. Strange But Good: Beefy Oatmeal with Blackberry Salsa

Beefy Oatmeal with Blackberry Salsa

This is the most controversial post of 2013.  I literally got hate mail.  This makes it my favorite post.  It’s just savory oats… 😉

10. Microwave Protein Carrot Cake

Microwave Protein Carrot CakeCarrot cake is one of my favorite desserts, so I was excited to see this healthy, protein-laced recipe hack make it to the top!  I still make this all the time.

9. Work It Out: The Ab Edition

Bad diet

Everyone wants the “secret” to abs.  There is no secret.  It really is about what you put in your mouth.  I got a little more specific in this post… actually, I need to re-read these tips…

8. The “No Shit” Diet

No Shit Diet

My favorite post ever.  It’s not rocket science – diet is common sense.  I also list some of my food staples and flavor adds.

7. Oatmeal Cookie Shake

Oatmeal Cookie Shake

I went on a bender with this protein shake.  It really does taste like a cold glass of dough.  Don’t be afraid of the nutritional yeast. 😉

6. Work It Out: Save Your Knees

I hate it for ‘ya, but it seems – like me – many of you struggle with knees issues.  This post is a round-up of exercises to strengthen your leg muscles without stressing your knees.

5. Protein Oatmeal Cookie Bars

Protein Oatmeal Cookie Bars

These are the bars that Lee Haney, 8x Mr.Olympia, claimed to be “delicious.”  I grinned for days.

4. Strange But Good: Chocolate Avocado Cookies

Chocolate Avocado Cookie

Avocado is a great (vegan!) way to add healthy fats in baking.  I’ve done it here, in scones, and in a cake… and no one was the wiser!

3. Red Velvet Protein Bars

Red Velvet Protein Bars

These bars are from a guest post by Kammie.  You should make them.  Immediately, if not sooner.

2. Spaghetti (Squash) Pie

Spaghetti Squash Pie

The second most popular post of 2013 was the only “dinner” recipe.  This is one of my personal favorites.  It is a healthy version of the pie my mom made growing up.  I’ve made it repeatedly, and created a Mexican version.

1. Sweet Potato Baked Oatmeal

Sweet Potato Baked Oatmeal with Icing

This was the most popular post of 2013, and the recipe I’ve re-made the most.  I am NOT a morning person (that’s putting it mildly).  I made these to keep in the freezer for a quick breakfast as I’m running out the door.  It’s really good with pumpkin or banana too!

And that’s what I ate in 2014. Don’t forget to check out Jenn’s link up!

I thought 2013 flew by… but some of these posts seem really far away!  I guess it wasn’t faster than any other year.

What are some of your favorite posts from 2013?  Feel free to share a link!

What posts do you most enjoy?  Anything you’d like to see more (or less) in 2014?

I love this post, its nice to see all that you have created and wrote this year! I have to try your version of the ACV, I am interested to see how I react with it, it looks so delish and a nice way to tackle that shot cause we both know its a TOUGH one to chug! Happy New Year Laura! Lots of Love and Health in 2014! C

    • Laura says

Let me know if it works for you! I’m so immune now that I can shoot it… not sure if that’s good or bad… 😉

I pinned the red velvet protein bars immediately after your post and it got so many repins! And I still didn’t make them! Unacceptable.
Also, the Protein Oatmeal Cookie Bars look perfect – I missed those! Thanks for sharing again!!
    Happy New Year!!

  3. says

LOVE rule #3 of the “no shit” diet. GOLDEN.

The “Save Your Knees” post is so important – people don’t realize how important it is to take care of that part of the body.

    Great offering of posts here!

  4. says

Happy New Year!! I remember every single one of these posts, and the No Shit diet is one of my favorites too. I’m sad to see your asparagus love didn’t make the list though. It should have. People don’t know what they’re missing.

  5. says

    Fun recap!!
I’m so excited to see the spaghetti squash pie recipe – that (spaghetti squash) is on my list to finally try this year and I’m on the hunt for recipes – this might be the perfect one!!!
    Happy 2014!

  6. says

So much GREAT content! I always love seeing your recipe experiments, Laura, and especially can’t wait to try #1, 2 and 10. :) Happy 2014!

  7. says

I keep saying I’m going to try the morning cocktail. Gotta get the glutomine and aminos. Does the Fitmixer cover both? I need to order it. Thanks, Laura, have a great day!

    • Laura says

I have a separate glutamine, but you may no need it unless you’re doing some hard core working out. It’s really good for soreness/muscle recovery. Fitmixer and I had to break up – their customer service was terrible and they had some questionable ingredients. Still trying to find one I love… but your local nutrition store should be able to help out!

  8. says

You seriously got hate mail over the beefy oats? Omg, people seriously need to get.a.LIFE!!

I’m definitely looking forward to more of your work it out posts since I’m FINALLY able to do more with my knee! Oh…guess what! The other day, I diddddddddddddd JUMPING JACKS!!! I just decided to give it a try and I didn’t have a single bit of pain! Whoop WHOOP!

Oh, and WHAT would 2014 be without much much more #strangebutgoodness?! 😉

    • Laura says

It was insane. People have WAY too much free time.

Jumping jacks rock – not too hard on the body and they keep your heart rate up. I’m so glad you’re finally healing up!!!
