Sexy Food + WIAW

Food is sexy.

Food porn is a real thing.

But what about food costumes?  Forget the “traditional” sexy cat.  This article brought to light a new concept: sexy food Halloween costumes.

With costumes like this, sriracha has no need to invest in advertising!

Then we have bacon.  Whats sexier than a salty piece of meat?

Sure, they’re good for a laugh… but would you really wear one of these costumes?  I guess a lot of people would.  If they didn’t make money, no one would sell them!

GiGi clearly thinks salad qualifies as sexy. (← hilarious video!)

This WIAW I am 10 days from my next figure competition!  My food may not be sexy in the traditional sense of the word, but it tasted pretty good! :)

Breakfast:

As usual, I started the day I with my Aminos and ACV morning cocktail I swear it’s more energizing than coffee.

My breakfast was a new effort to have a quick hot meal in the morning.  I normally make my oats the old-fashioned way in a pot, but I decided to try a (partial) overnight protein-right creation.  Overnight oats, microwaved in the morning with egg whites.

It worked really well!  Even better was the almost-empty Nuttzo jar I transferred it to.  Easy to eat in the car and even more decadently delicious when I reached the hot, creamy, nutty butter at the bottom.  Food porn at its best!

Peanut Coffee Overnight Oats

Peanut-Coffee Oats in a Jar

  • 1/4 C rolled oats
  • 1/2 C coffee (I used peanut butter mocha flavor)
  • 1 T peanut flour*
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • Stevia or other sweetener, to taste
  • 1/2 C egg whites
  • Almost-empty nut butter jar (optional, but highly recommended)

In a small bowl mix oatmeal and spices.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.

In the morning, add egg whites and microwave to cook.  I cooked mine in 3 30 second intervals, removing to stir each time so eggs blended in rather than scrambled

Pour into a jar, if using, and top as desired.  I used strawberries.

Mid-Morning Snack:

I have a serious addiction to my Chocolate Beet Protein Shake.  Perfect post workout cool down, topped with rice cakes.

Protein shakes are great to make in advance and freeze to take to-go during the week.  I pop it in the microwave on defrost of about a minute and a half and it’s the perfect spoon-eating consistency.

Lunch:

I’ve been craving red meat lately, so I bought super lean ground beef and mixed it with pico de gallo to make burgers.

Eaten atop an arugula and cucumber salad with a side of cassava (yuca) chips.  ZooPals ears make for the perfect sexy chip holders.

Mid-Afternoon Snack:

I tried another new fish from the farmer’s market this week: perch.  It’s pretty commonly found (I think), but I’ve never chosen it before.  I love its richness, but perch is a small fish so there were quite a few teeny bones.  At least I didn’t have to floss…

The veggies were a pre-roasted mix of carrots, purple sweet potato, asparagus, zucchini, and garlic.  Eating the rainbow is sexy, no?

Dinner:

Dinner was a quick saute of white asparagus, turban squashsugar peas, and sage in lemon juice, coconut oil, and paprika, along with baked chicken (made during Sunday food prep) and some unpictured almonds.

Dessert:

No more diary before my competition means no more Greek yogurt bowl desserts.  And no more peanut butter (goodbye, Nuttzo).

This isn’t going to stop me from having dessert though!  I made a Banana-Peanut Butter Mugcake using peanut flour and banana.  I topped it with cocoa powder sauce.  What’s sexier than a peanut butter, banana, and chocolate ménage à trois?

Banana Peanut Butter Mugcake

Banana Peanut Butter Mugcake

  • 2 T peanut flour (or peanut butter)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp no sodium baking powder
  • 1/2 small banana, mashed (~50g)
  • 1 T unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 3 T egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • ~4-5 drops NuNaturals vanilla liquid stevia
  • Optional: cocoa powder sauce

Place dry ingredients in a small bowl and stir to combine.  Add banana and wet ingredients and mix until smooth.

Transfer to a large, greased (I use PAM) coffee mug and microwave for ~1 min.

Tip the cake out onto a plate and top as desired.  My cake was topped with cocoa powder sauce (cocoa + cinnamon + stevia + water), cacao nibs, and unsweetened coconut flakes.

Makes 1 cake.

Wait wait wait, You’re telling me you WOULDN’T dress up like a sexy Cookies and Cream QUEST BAR?! ! I would most certainly dress up like a crispy salmon skin roll, but the thing is.. I wouldn’t dress up on Halloween, no no, I like to do things OUT OF THE NORM. I would dress up on November 2nd… That’s actually my favorite day of the YEAR! :D

Oh and I love mixing my MEAT with some SAUCE… ;) Salsa or Tapenade… OHHH YAAAA!! Now that’s sexual. Okay yes, my comment went there, like it typically does!

**PS: SALADS ARE THE SEXIEST FOOD on the PLANET! If there are no sexy salads walking around this Halloween, I will be utterly disappointed! ;)

  2. says

Haha OMG at that bacon costume- I’m not sure I could ever get myself to pull that one off! I don’t know Laura- red meat is pretty sexy to me…your lunch included :)

  3. says

I’d hit on any of your meals they are damn sexy!

Halloween is ignored here fail. I do prep breakfast in advance due to some library dates, and often its eggs or pancakes but recently, its been pizza. Thinking of making it a staple ;)

  4. says

I’m dying over the bacon dress but really I’m thinking of Lady Gaga wearing real meat a few years ago. She wore it much better! ;)

Love mugcakes but they always turn out to be fails for me. But I still keep trying!

    • Laura says

      I forgot about Gaga’s dress!!! That was… interesting… ;)

Have you tried my mug cake? I swear the chocolate is perfection – I have it nearly every night!

  5. says

    Your dessert looks really great!
I always prepare my breakfast the night before during the week, but it’s mostly sandwiches.
I probably won’t dress up for Halloween this year, instead I have a movie date with a friend to watch Thor 2.

  6. says

I have been dreaming of HALLOWEEN and since there are not many costume shops out here I haven’t really thought of being anything and I should because I LOVE dressing up! I can not wait to see your fitness photos, thank you for sharing your journey it makes me so excited as I am for sure competing!!! Love all of your mugcakes they always look SO delicious <3 C

    • Laura says

I already have balls! LOL! I can have YOUR balls after the 16th in Denver with Heather… I still think you should come out. :)

  7. says

Great idea to freeze the protein shakes! That would actually be a great idea for one of our road trips. I could freeze them then as they melt, I could eat/drink them. You’re such a smartie!! It’s so exciting that you’re getting so close to the competition. Have a great day, Laura!

  8. says

I have never been big into Halloween. It’s been years since I’ve dressed up actually. I might actually be “that” girl who wore the Sriracha costume LOL. So the no dairy – bloating? What about the PB? Just curious is all. I’m nosy like that ;-)

    • Laura says

The point is really to keep it as clean and non-bloating as possible. Nothing processed or that could stop you up (if you know what I mean ;) ).

  9. says

Peanut coffee oats!!! OMG!!!! Where do you find all your amazing flavored coffee? Have you found coconut stevia by any chance. :) LOVE the recipes!!!

    2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP!!!!!!

    • Laura says

Fresh Market, TJ Maxx, Whole Foods, my mom… LOL! Coffee is everywhere!

No coconut stevia, but I haven’t looked either. I know most stores have coconut extract.

  10. says

No dressing up this year. I haven’t gone out for Halloween in a good few years…I LOVE breakfast. I never want it to end, especially when it usually involves a almost empty Nuttzo jar and oats. It’s seriously the BEST way to start the day. Cannot believe your competition is so close…WOW!

  11. Randi says

I have been thinking about how to do my overnight oats with eggs and of course you have an answer for it!! can’t wait to try this, thank you for posting! love the idea of adding coffee to it :)

  12. says

Oh man, those costumes are awesome. hahahaha. I think a certain someone should go a public banana. Just sayin’.

I’ve never had yucca! Does it taste similar to anything?

I’ll be counting down the days to your comp by ingesting all the dairy/peanutty goodness for you at night. I’m so sweet. ;)

    • Laura says

      I completely agree!!! LOL!

Yuca is a root veggie – it’s similar to a potato, but a little sweeter and the texture has more body when cooked.

  13. says

This food looks pretty darn sexy to me! It all looks delicious – and you’re doing such an amazing job of keeping food interesting so close to competition! Although I’m kind of mad … you’re dogging on my Halloween costume ;).

  14. says

I think you know my thoughts on sexy food. ;)

That mug cake sounds perfect! I love my peanut flour! Also, I’m a fan of any treat out of an almost empty jar of nut butter. The guys all leave theirs for me. (and I just realized I left that wide open for a “that’s what she said joke”)

  15. says

What’s sexier than a peanut butter, banana, and chocolate ménage à trois? A BACON orgy!!! :P

I’m not dressing up for Halloween…unless you count my festive little scrub top! Yeah, that totally counts because it’s fun and makes me feel cute! :D

Where in God’s name did you find peanut butter flavored coffee?! Wait, was that your TJ Maxx/Marshall’s score from a few weeks ago? How is it?

    • Laura says

Would that be a borgy? ;)

I saw a guy who happened to be a red head dress up as a “ginger” bread man by tying loaves of bread around his neck. Thought of you and your mane, naturally.

TJ Maxx!!! It’s good, but is more PB on the nose than anything. Tastes like… coffee.

  16. Gaby says

10 days!!! Wow, can’t wait to see the photos! I still really want to compete but it’s scary to think about all the hard work that goes into it.
I always want to get a cute costume but the last few years I’ve been so last minute about it I never come up with anything good. I wanted to convince my bf to go as PB and J last year but we never got around to making the costume. This year I volunteered at a children’s center and again didn’t have anything! I wore some blue jaguar print yoga leggings and bought some cheap cat ears from walgreens. But the kids were adorable!
Where do you get your nuttzo? I’ve always wanted to try it but it costs $14 a jar here! There’s been a huge trend of flavored nut butters recently and I want to try them all but I go through 3 jars a week (did I just admit that on the internets?? :X) so I can’t stomach the price tag. I’ve started buying regular PB from those self serve machines for $2 a lb then mix it up with stuff at home. This week’s was pumpkin pie PB inspired by chocolate covered katie’s recipe. I highly recommend that as well as birthday cake cashew butter for after your comp!

    • Laura says

You should do it! It’s not easy, but so much fun to see what you’re capable of.

Nuttzo is expensive everywhere… sorry, I don’t have a secret. But it’s soooooo worth it! I love the idea to mix your own though. I’m going to borrow that one!

  17. says

I am dying looking at the Srircha costume. That is hilarious! I think your peanut-coffee oats sound SO good. You can’t go wrong with coffee and oats :)
