Marvelous Smoothie Crack: Mocha Beet Frappuccino

I would never expose you to something whack, so this post isn’t actually about crack.  It is a super-energizing smoothie though!

This week’s MMAZ link up is about making someone else’s recipe.  Unfortunately, I am unable to follow recipes (or directions).  Rather, I took inspiration from someone’s recipe.

Sarah created this vegan Mocha Chip Mousse last week.  I loved how she used tofu to create a protein-rich healthy-ish dessert.  It made me remember my favorite Carrot Cake Batter Shake, where I used tofu to get a milk shake consistency.  Why hadn’t I done it with chocolate?!  And coffee… this was a frapp waiting to happen!  There may have been some strangeness too… I’ve been loving chocolate-beet smoothies lately and I carried that idea over to make this a Mocha Beet Frappuccino. :)

First I have to share some marvelous!!!  I had the pleasure of dining with one of my favorite ladies: Sarena!  She invited me over for dinner with her family.  I’d never met her crew before, but felt like I already knew them thanks to social media.  Tony (her husband) said he felt like Instragram was coming to life.  :)

If you’ve never tried any of Sarena’s gluten-free baked goods before, let me assure you this stuff is the jam.  She made a loaf of gluten-free bread that was better than most of the “real” bread I’ve had.

We started with a salad, then for dinner enjoyed succotash, grilled pork, and homemade bread.  And more bread.  I wish I’d gotten a pic of the Pavlova Sarena made for dessert too.  It was fantastic!

 

Also marvelous was a sunny Sunday run up Stone Mountain.  Remember those booty building incline sprints?  I’m back at it. :)

While we’re talking about booty, I finally picked up a pair of the Nike Pro booty shorts I see everyone on Instagram wearing.  They are actually amazing – comfy and breathable.

I shamelessly wore them all day long.  Including to 2 grocery stores.

Marvelous Monday

 Mocha Beet Frappuccino

Mocha Beet Frappuccino

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 serving (1.5 oz) tofu
  • 1/4 C roasted beet (or 1 tsp beet powder)
  • 1 T instant coffee granules
  • 1/2 T cocoa powder
  • 1/4 inch piece fresh ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon)
  • 5-6 drops vanilla liquid stevia
  • Pinch of xanthan and guar gums (optional)
  • Ice and water (adjust according to thickness preference)


Toss it all in the blender and mix until smooth.

Inhale.  Bounce off the walls.

Why don’t I ever remember that it’s a bad idea to run up mountains the day before leg day?!  Doh.

Do you run around in your gym clothes all day?

Do you even gluten-free products even though you don’t have an allergy?  I like trying all the foods!

    If I had a booty like yours I’d run around in booty shorts all day long! ;-)

    Actually I just returned from the IDEA Fitness Convention, where everybody wore fitness clothes. Seriously, all work clothes should be workout clothes. We’d all be fitter, more comfortable, and hence happier employees.

    Luckily I work from home so if I’m working out in the evening and not meeting any clients before then, chances are I am showered but sitting in my gym clothes- comfort first always :)! I was at a food market over the weekend and saw Gluten Free Salted Caramel Peanut Butter Brownies…and trust me, my desire to try them had nothing to do with the GF label!

    Love Incline Sprints! I went trailrunning on the weekend and did a few stairsprints, let’s just say I move like a grandma now.
    I think I might nix the mocha and add even more chocolate, because I am not a coffeegirl, but a chocolate addict. And Beets! YUMM!
    I eat mostly glutenfree, even though I have no allergy, but my stomach is pretty sensitive when it comes to grains.

    Gluten free foods have definitely come a long way. I remember back in the day when you could break windows with a loaf of bread… But now? Some of the GF things are legitimately good. And yes… if I didn’t have to, I’m pretty sure if never change out of workout clothes. I mean, comfortable and cute? What’s not to love…

    False advertising, it was the crack in your title than attracted me here :p

    You should sell that frapp to starbucks! All the strangebutgood lovers all over America will make it their new frapp of choice.. especially with the tofu in it! Ironically, my #strangebutgood addition for this friday involves that vegetarian protein! Hope you have a great start to the week buddy!

    I make a beet smoothie pretty regularly with beets, kale, coconut milk, berries, banana and protein powder. I like the idea of yours though–coffee and cocoa! Thanks for sharing.

    i definitely live in workout clothes all day long when i’m allowed to! during our vacation i was asking my sister which outfit to wear and she goes, “but those are all workout clothes!” uhhh yeah and maybe that’s all i brought lol

    I love those days where you wear workout clothes all day ;-) And definitely yes on the Nike Pro shorts – I have one pair, and am seriously considering just going and stocking up. So comfy and perfect for workouts.
    I have no problems with gluten, but I’ll buy the products on occasion – they’ve come a long way! I actually prefer gluten free crackers (nut thins, Mary’s) to most conventional ones.

    OK, those booty shorts look amazing on you! If they were longer, I would buy a pair! :) I would do the sprints with you too – well, maybe! ;)

    I also want some of that gluten free BREAD – says this bread lover & the baked goods too!!!!

    even if I know my workout isn’t until later in the day, I will put on my workout clothes if I don’t have any meetings beforehand (G+ or skype meetings don’t really count).

    I’m glad to see another who didn’t really follow the rules – I never can either. I LOVE the idea of this smoothie – the ginger is my favorite part!

      I only wish there were masks we could wear for skype (like the Jetson’s) so I didn’t have to do my make up.

    Girl, I am ALWAYS in workout clothes haha. On days I don’t have clients I jump at the opportunity to wear ‘real’ clothes – trust me, gym clothes do get tiring after a while haha

    I’m dying to get some of those Nike Pros but they don’t sell them in the UK :(

    I wish I would wear my gear all the time. I normally change pretty quick after workouts because I sweat so much, but if I was a non sweater I am sure I would stay in them constantly. haha

    SO awesome you got to meet up with Sarena ! I love her, she is seriously the sweetest person! I always tell her I wish we lived close! How fun you got to go to her house and enjoy some yummy food! I am jealous!

    The smoothie looks great! Never added coffee , beets, or ginger to a smoothie! I bet it is good though, I like different ;)

    I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!! I love adding a CAFFEINE buzz to my smoothies I swear its like WHY not? Superfood PUNCH me + CAFFEINE CRAZE ME! I love this concoction it is defiantly a must try when I arrive in BANGKOK!! I always do gluten free stuff and I am pretty sure I am not allergic but heck why not! Thanks for sharing :) Hope your Monday continues to be MARVELOUS!

    girl we always seem to be in our gym clothes all day long haha
    we need to make more beets drinks and puddings again, it has been while ;)
    so jealous of Stone Mountain incline training, we wish Charlotte had something like that!

    On weekends, you’ll rarely ever find me in anything other than gym clothes or pjs. Comfort is key!
    I don’t believe I’ve ever tried gluten free bread before. I actually don’t eat bread but I’d be willing to try one of Sarena’s recipes since you’re such a fan!

    I don’t ever leave the house in workout clothes, unless I’m actually working out in them and then it’s to the gym, the workout and home. No stops in other public places. I have no qualms walking around in short shorts, but they are going to be real shorts. I will say if I stay in the house, I will live in my pajamas all day long. Does that count a little?
    I did walking laps up and down hills yesterday and my calves are feeling it today, which is of course Mixed Martial Arts day…what was I thinking?!
